FMA and Harry Potter and... this post is REALLY, like, 100% geekery.
Well, it's July 23rd. The FMA movie is out. Right now. At this exact moment, I bet that there are people in Japan watching it in theaters and having aneurisms. And us silly North Americans have absolutely no way of seeing it until further notice. I'm just waiting for the verdict from
hime1999 once she's finished dying. Although, knowing FMA, I'm taking her apparent death as a good sign. *crosses fingers*
EDIT: Or I could completely and utterly ruin it for myself. Ahahaha.
I've been reasonably annoyed with the suggestion that Snape might not be evil. I couldn't figure it out- I mean, as much as anyone I want to believe he's good. The thought that he WAS working for Voldemort all along honestly makes me sick to my stomach and just generally ruins my image of him throughout the entire series. It makes it difficult for me to read about him in the earlier books because now I'm seeing an entirely different character than I was seeing before.
However, I think I might actually be mad at Rowling if this was just another big (read: FREAKING ENORMOUS) red herring. She's done so much waffling on Snape's loyalty already that switching him AGAIN will just feel like the cheap way out. You'd imagine she would realize that we'd get sick of it after a while- oh man! Snape's so evil! Except that he's good! Or... is he? Nonono, he's good. So good. Sickeningly good. This man is a fucking saint, someone give him a medal. Except that's he's actually a fucking evil genius. Oops! Just kidding! I really had you THAT time! *giggle*
It seemed to me that a lot of the parallels and comparisons drawn, as well as a lot of the foreshadowing in Half Blood Prince was more or less dedicated to giving Snape this particular dramatic turn around. The sixth book was effectively about Snape in a rather roundabout way. I just think it would be bad storytelling to have him suddenly switch sides again. Whatever dramatic turnaround she could give him at this point would be VERY hard pressed to beat KILLING FUCKING ALBUS DUMBLEDORE.
And yes, I'll laugh if I'm wrong. But at least I'd be surprised. I like being surprised in Harry Potter books. ^___^
By the way, I'm doing another DRABBLE MEME.
Go request something! You know you want to!
