GO GO POWER RANGERS!!
Well, I could be doing something better with my time, but I figured that this would be more entertaining in the long run.
I am such a loser. Shoot me now.
Zyuranger? Dragon Ceaser? Bandara? As you all probably realize, the show we grew up knowing as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is actually Kyouryu Sentai Zyu Ranger, or 'Dinosaur Squadron Beast Rangers'.
In searching google for pictures of POLLUTICORN, I indirectly discovered supersentai.com, a database of sentai shows including a complete overview of Zyurangers. Now, on this of the pacific the story of Power Rangers went a little bit like this: five teenagers were walking home late at night and decided to take a shortcut through the construction site where they met a dying alien prince named Elfangor...
Oh, wait. That's Animorphs. I'm actually not 100% sure what the english plot of Power Rangers was, only that I thought the Green Ranger was totally the coolest thing in the entire Universe. And thanks to this guide, I have solved for myself the mystery of why the hell Tommy became the White Ranger.
Okay, so the story goes something like this:
This guy named Dai Satan decided fights these things called Shogozyus, or Protector Beasts with the help of a witch named Bandora (Rita Repulsive) who hated dinosaurs and wanted them all dead. When the war was over, Bandora and her posses was sealed away in a jaw on the planet 'Nemesis'. 170,000,000 years ago until a Japanese Space Shuttle sent to investigate the planets frees them. Apparently the Zyurangers are ancient people from the first war, who were put to sleep until Bandora was freed.
Now, the Power Rangers may have ZORDON and ALPHA, but the Zyurangers had an immortal snow pirest dude named Barza who watched over their sleeping bodies and went undercover as an apartment building manager. They also had Barza's friend Gnome, Gnome's grandson and some water guardian chick who watched over the Dragon Ranger to keep them company.

You didn't think the Green Ranger could get any cooler? Well, he DID! In Zyuranger, he was Burai the DRAGON RANGER and he piloted the DRAGON CEASER! He had an angsty past and his father swore him to take revenge because his younger brother was stolen by the Yamato King... or... something to that effect. Burai was manipulated by Bandora mostly thanks to the ledgendary sword he wielded that slowly caused it's bearer to go insane.
He was also (SURPRISE SURPRISE!!!) the OLDER BROTHER of Geki, the RED RANGER! And the two of them had an ANGSTY BROTHERLY relationship in which Geki was all like: "Niisan! I loooove you! Come join us!!!" and Burai was all like: "DIIIIIIE!!!!"
Eventually, it all came down to a BIG DRAMATIC CLIMATIC BATTLE between the Red Ranger and the Green Ranger, but Geki refused to kill his brother. Burai tried to kill him instead, but he found that he COULD NOT because he LOVED HID BROTHER! They began crying and the PURITY OF BURAI'S TEARS CLEANSED THE SWORD OF EVIL!
However, there was still a bit of complications going on with the Dragon Ranger. It turned out in the end that during his time asleep, there was an earthquake and his cave fell on him. The Dragon Ranger was in fact DEAD, and had only been given an extended life by the Water Guardian so that he could pass down the Dragon Ceaser (because, really, the Dragon Zord was the SHIZNIT!) to his little brother (Awwww).
In the end, he died.
And *that* is why Tommy became the White Ranger.
Character Differences
The Red Ranger, or "Tyrannosauras Ranger" was still the leader. But he was cooler than Jason cause' Jason sucked. He grew up thinking he was a prince, but was actually the son of a rebellious black knight who was on bad terms with the king. When his brother died, he began wearing that gold chest-plate thingy and used the Green Ranger's sword.
The Black Rager, Goushi is not one of the "reject rangers" like Zack was, but is actually the second in command of the team. He wants to kill Bandora badly since she killed his sister. And in a valiant effort that would make Zack proud, he appears to be beating up a KKK member in the picture I linked.
The Blue Ranger, Dan is just the most adoraible thing in the universe. Look at him! Isn't he cute giving us that victory sign? Awww. ^___^ He acts before thinking, is a huge joker and likes to flirt. Ha, Billy he is not. (Actually, if you changed the first part to "thinking before acting" he'd be Marco. Okay, enough Animorphs-Power Rangers connections for one day. -__-;;)
The Pink Ranger, Mei was a Princess with a gentle, caring nature who "had no problem getting in on the fight". Ugh. Dear lord. And the fanservice. >__<
The Yellow Ranger is, ironically enough, name Boy. This is funny, because in the english power rangers, the yellow ranger is almost ALWAYS a girl. ^__^ (I'd like to see a male pink ranger someday). He is both the youngest and most mature ranger in the group. He is also AWESOME since he is FIGHTING POLLUTICORN IN HIS BIO IMAGE!!!

I do not seem to remember Goldar having a wife, but he definitely did in the Japanese version. She was named Lami and turned into a giant scorpion. Also, Goldar's name was Grifforzer. That is the coolest ever. Even if Goldar is a pussy. ^___^

BONUS FACT:
If the Animorphs were Power Rangers...
Jake would be the Red Ranger, and become very awkward about wearing such a bold color.
Marco would be the Black Ranger and say something about Darth Vader.
Rachel would be the Pink Ranger and be pretty pissed off about it.
Cassie would be the Yellow Ranger and probably would make some comment on the sexism involved in the girls wearing pink and yellow.
Ax would be the Green Ranger because he was the last one introduced.
And Tobias, the geek, would be the Blue Ranger, but he would always secretly think he should have been the Green Ranger because he has the most angst.
Anyways, I'm done with that. As another note, anyone who could find me a decent in-action picture of Polluticorn would be my hero. I need it to make an avatar.
