I love stories that stay in the magical worlds, not moving outside into Muggle territory too much. Some new magic would be wonderful. I love stories of discovery, slowly getting to know a person beyond the intentionally revealed.

I like gentleness and kindness, humor and sharp-tongued banter. All with a background of 'I really do see you, and I care for you.'
I can deal with darker, heavier stories as long as they do wonderful things with language and end on a happy, hopeful note. I love stories where someone truly sees value in Snape, even if Snape at first has a hard time believing that this could be so.

But you can't ever do wrong with a gently-funny romance with a happy end.

Also feel free to run with the art promps for fic if they they inspire you.

What I don't like:
PWP, anything kinky or squicky, non-con. I like romance, not smuttiness - a PG13 or under rating would be appreciated. I also don't like to see Snape humiliated - so please leave him his dignity. I don't like cheating and adultery. Oh, and I don't like teacher-student. So I prefer stories where Hermione is a self-sufficient adult (post Hogwarts.)

The oldest things I own:

This is a German Bible I picked up for $ 2 at a used bookstore. It was given as a Confirmation gift in 1898. There was a clipping in it about a soldier who died in WW1 - a younger brother of the owner of the bible, maybe?

The tiny little prayer book was a gift from bellegeste. I think it is at least 150 years old, but it doesn't have a date inscribed...so I don't know the exact year!

This is the inscription in the Bible, in Suetterlin German script:

My previous Random Thing, now in the fridge, next to my green tomato pickles.

On another note, today was a good day toward more sustainable living - we picked up a quarter of a piece of cattle (about 95 lbs total meat), from friends who raise their animals organically, on pasture with lots of space and green grass, and make sure they are killed humanely.

And we now get eggs from what may well be the happiest chickens on earth. I am talking seriously pampered birds.

The little white egg was laid by Bowie. The green one next to it by Hermione. Yeah, friend-with-chickens is a Potter fan, too. It was Hermione's very first egg. ;0)

We had a great time - just too short! We spent a day in Seattle, and two days with family in Forks. This was our first stay in Seattle, and we really want to go back.

Visiting relatives in Forks. The coast around here is just beautiful.

It's funny to see how much more Twilight stuff there is from even a year ago. According to the paper, Forks had as many visitors this May as it did in all of 2008.

MY GIFT IN THE SSHG EXCHANGE POSTED!!

And it is amazing. I asked for a 'book travel' story. My mystery author chose "Peter Pan and Wendy", and delivered beyond anything I could have thought of. It's imaginative and tender and beautiful. And blends the two worlds absolutely perfectly.

Go read it!

Chili and cornbread today. Plus some salad. The cornbread's in the oven - smells good! I am trying a recipe without sugar or flour. We'll see how it turns out.

Edit: It turned out nice. Nice non-crumbly texture, pleasantly salty. Here is the recipe if anyone's interested.

1 1/2 cups white cornmeal
1 t salt
3/4 t baking soda
2 eggs, separated
2 T melted butter
1 1/3 c buttermilk

Mix dry ingredients. Beat in egg yolks and buttermilk and melted margarine. Beat egg whites until stiff. Fold in batter. Immediately make muffins or pour into 8x8 cake pan. Bake at 475, 25 minutes or until brown and crusty.

Back from the concert - it was great! When I looked at the tickets online, for some reason tickets for the VIP lounge were the same as for general admission (they are usually more than twice as much.) So we got to be up there, with a nice view and a nice place to sit (but no camera - only fuzzy cell phone pictures. This one turned out best of the lot!)

We were there way early (the venue serves dinner, and we decided to do that before the concert) and got to watch John Ondrasik just entertain himself on the grand piano while we ate. Very nice!
