Digital Dexterity Program

2017-2019

Program Director: Carmel O’Sullivan (University of Southern Queensland)

Digital dexterity is essential for success in education, the workforce, and life. It includes digital and information literacy but also encompasses a range of capabilities, including:

  • ICT proficiency
  • digital learning and creation
  • digital collaboration
  • media and data literacy
  • digital identity

Universities and their libraries are ideally placed to equip Australians and New Zealanders with the skills and higher-order knowledge required to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Projects

The Digital Dexterity Program incorporated three projects:

  • Digital Dexterity Framework Project
  • Digital Dexterity Advocacy and Engagement Project
  • Digital Dexterity Capability Building Project

The program and its projects:

  • developed a Digital Dexterity Position Statement that outlines principles and goals,
  • developed a Digital Dexterity Framework for library professionals that sets out the capabilities that make up digital dexterity,
  • developed an advocacy toolkit that provided a structured approach to advocating for and engaging in conversations about digital dexterity at Member institutions,
  • established a network of Digital Dexterity Champions, which operated as the Digital Dexterity Community of Practice from 2020 to 2024.

Digital Dexterity blog

The Digital Dexterity Community of Practice published a blog until December 2024. While the blog is no longer active, the content remains a valuable resource on various topics related to digital dexterity.
