Blood Lines by Tanya Huff

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Liked this book better than the first one of the Victoria Nelson series, thought not as good as the 2nd one. Henry and Mike were characterized very good, and I also liked Tony. But the main character, Vickie, is somehow not likeable enough for me.
In the Tv show they gave Henry and Mike the exact opposite hair colours, and as I've seen the show before I began to read the books, this is pretty confusing as I always imagine the faces from the series when reading the books.

I didn't think I would like this as much as I did. I heard a lot of good reviews, so my expectations were very high. The first 50 pages an kinda slow, but then the characters and the stories developed, and I couln't stop reading.

An interesting and fun read. It shows that even if you're not religious at all, the bible is good literature. And if you're religous, the additional information gives a lot to tell off irritating "I-don't-believe-in-anything-and-you-should-do-that-too"-people.

Qualification test

Today I have an qualification test for a master program I want to do. It is master of logistic management and consulting. I already talked with my boss(es) about this, and the company is even willing to pay for half of it. So there is just this test I have to do.

The test is consisting about two parts. One is a multiple choice test with 30 questions. From those 30 questions I have to answer at least 20, and 10 of them have to be correct.

The second part is an interview with the board of the university.

For the second part I can prepare myself - I guess it's gonna be the usual questions. Why do you want to study this, do you even have time for doing a master while you're working, does your company know about this yadda yadda.

For the first part I'd really like to prepare myself - I called, and the answe is that I should not prepare, they like to know what I still now of my studies. I really don't like not to be able to prepare myself for this test (or any test at all), but well. Maybe I'll randomly skip through what I learned at varsity (no problem, just being five or six folders full of it).

Well, either I'll fit in or I don't.

I am such an idiot. I accidentely suscribed to a paid account under a wrong user name. See, I wanted to include my LJ into my website, and to try out how this works I created a new user called "cattydotnet". And instead of logging out and on with my cattys user name, I bought the paid account for the user name I won't use, damnit. I wish I didn't sign up for the whole year :( Maybe they can switch it, otherwise I'd have that account name which I would not even use, or would get a paid account for cattys again and have 20 bucks wasted on nothing. *sigh*

Oh well, I am back from Sweden, btw.

No matter what happends this evening, I am really in awe with the German Mannschaft. They played magnificent.

Since '04 I am watching every game they show on Tv when Germany plays, and I have to admit they were many games literally painful to watch. At this worldcup it really was no luck but pure awesomeness that brought them further.

I love how the people celebrate together, I love all the Germany flags (today I saw a car who belonged to somebody who looked rather turkish which was all decorated with Germany flags LOL). I really don't mind having all this outlandish looking people in the german team. I mean, look around: A bunch of turkish people, black people, polish people and some Müller's and Schmidts. That's Germany today, and that's how companies, agencies and teams should look like to represent the country.

And I love how the mood is ten times better during the wordcup. Usually politics decide something aweful during this time and you don't get it cause you were so focussed at football and you just realize it weeks later XD.

I wish with all my heart that they will play as awesome as they did recently and that they will go into the finale ♥

Marathon Mainz - 09.05.2010

Für alle die sich für die Zwischenzeiten interessieren: Ergebnis meines Marathons.

Der Marathon war...irgendwie komisch. Kann gar nicht glauben, dass ich den gelaufen bin. Geht ein Kindheitstraum für mich in Erfüllung, und irgendwie wars zu...einfach? :dunno:
Ich war so darauf fixiert, meine Zeiten zu halten, und die Verpflegung so einzuteilen wie vorher geplant, dass ich kaum mitbekommen bin, dass ich den gelaufen bin. Die Härtesten Kilometer waren, wie im Training auch, 15-17 KM. Nach 10 KM hab ich meinen Rhythmus gefunden und bekomme nochmal einen Energie-Schub, der aber dann spätestens nach KM 15 vorbei ist.
Außerdem war ich so darauf bedacht, nicht zu dehydrieren, dass ich wohl vorher zu viel getrunken hatte. Habe jede Station mitgenommen, und vorher einen Liter Wasser und 0,5 l Elektrolyt-Getränk zu mir genommen, und musste schon am KM 5 aufs Klo. :ugly:
Aber vor dem HM wollte ich keien Zeit verschwenden. Meine Familie war da und hat mich am Start angefeuert und nach der 1. Runde, also nach dem HM. Danach wollte ich aber unbedingt aufs Klo, und weit und breit kein Dixi-Häuschen.

Wobei ich sagen muss, dass Mainz als Marathon-Anfänger, der auch langsam läuft wohl nicht so geeignet ist. Zwar ist die Strecke relativ flach (bis auf die Brücke die sich in Grenzen hält), aber nach der Hälfte waren fast alle Läufer weg. Zur Erklärung: Man kann beim Mainz-Marathon sich sozusagen spontan umentscheiden, und dann doch nur einen halben Marathon laufen. Bei den anderen Marathons in Deutschland ist das anders: Entweder man meldet sich gleich für den "richtigen" Lauf an, oder man muss eben abbrechen. Da es ziemlich ekelhaftes Wetter war (vor dem Start Gewitter, während des Laufs 9 Grad und Regen), haben sich viele umentschieden. Denke mal diejenigen, die so langsam waren wie ich, haben gleich beim HM aufgehört, sieht jedenfalls in der Ergebnisliste so aus. In der zweiten Hälfte habe ich kaum eine Menschenseele gesehen, außer der Besenwagen, der mir auf der Brücke entgegenkam (deprimierend!). Außerdem hatten viele Stände und Musikkapellen schon zusammen gepackt, umso toller fand ich die Leute die da waren.

Also rüber auf die ep'sche Seite (=Wiesbaden), wo einer der "Moderatoren", also Stimmungsmacher an der Strecke, von denen gab es glaub ich vier insgesamt oder so, einen nochmal aufgemuntert hat. Dann bei KM 26 endlich ein Dixi-Klo. Daneben stehen Leute und feuern an. Ich zucke mit den Schultern und gehe lieber erstmal aufs Klo, als ich rauskomme "Na, jetzt gehts wieder, oder?". Ha, ha. Nach der Brücke hat mein Papa auf mich gewartet. Das war eine Überraschung, weil wir uns ja eigentlich erst wieder im Ziel sehen wollten. Er ist dann so 500 Meter mit mir mit gelaufen und hat mich aufgemuntert und angefeuert.

Danach kommt die zweite Schlaufe, also eine Strecke, die man genauso vorher auch schon gelaufen ist. Sowas mag ich gar nicht, weil man sich dann immer erinnert "oh, wir sind erst hier...dann kommt ja noch das-und-das Gebäude". Zweimal an der Kläranlage vorbei hätte auch nicht sein müssen.

Bei KM 32 habe ich eine Frau getroffen, die etwas geschwächelt hat. Ihr tat es genau da weh, wo mir es auch weh getan hat (Also außer Beine und Füße natürlich): Am Rücken. Hätte wohl mehr Krafttrainign machen müssen. Ich hab ihr zugerufen "nur noch 10 Kilometer!!" und dann sind wir bis zum Rest fast zusammen gelaufen. Habe nachgeschaut, sie ist Altersklasse W60.

Auf der Zielgeraden kam dann mein Papa zu mir und ist nochmal ein paar hundert Meter mit mir gelaufen. "Nur noch 200 Meter!" - Na ja, dann würd ich ja das 42 Kilometer-Marke Schild sehen... Meine ganze Familie war da, mich zu Unterstützen, die waren total stolz auf mich :l: Besonderes Highlight war für mich der Clown auf der Zielgeraden. Das ist so ein franzose, der total viele Läufe mitmacht, von dem hab ich auch schon in diversen Zeitschriften gelesen. Der muntert die letzten auf der Strecke auf, und schenkt Blumen. Die bekommt bei mir einen Ehrenplatz neben den Medaillen :mydreamy:

Bei der Zielverpflegung hatten sie schon komplett zusammen alls weggeräumt, da musste ich nach Getränken fragen, die dann wieder für mich ausgepackt wurden. ("Wie, da kommen noch welche?" - ja, nach mir kamen noch sieben Läufer oder so an). Musste förmlich um mein Wasser ud Fruibase betteln. :gaga:

Tja, der erste Marathon ist für mich "einfacher" gelaufen als ich dachte. Habe immer auf dem "Mann mit dem Hammer" gewartet, der aber irgendwie nicht kam. Kann sein, dass ich auch etwas schneller hätte laufen können, aber das wollte ich beim ersten Marathon nicht ausprobieren, Ziel waren 5:15 Stunden und das hab ich ja unterboten. Wenn ich bedenke, dass ich als Moppelchen mit 30 Kilo mehr auf den Rippen mit dem Laufen angefangen habe, und erst seit 3 Jahren dabei bin, finde ich es auch gar nicht so schlimm nur 22 Minuten vor dem Besenwagen anzukommen. (Obwohl ja eine Zeit über 5 Stunden für viele "richtige" Läufer nicht als Laufen zählt...)
Ich war so auf die Zeit und die Verpflegung fixiert, dass ich irgendwie kaum mitbekommen habe, dass ich einen Marathon gelaufen bin. Meine Beine fühlen sich genauso schwer an wie nach 30km Trainingslauf.

Food revoltion vs. Glee revolution?

Can you support Jamie Oliver's Food revolution and agree with what he says and at the same time like the new Glee episode and kinda agree with that?

I'd like to post a long and thoughtful rant about this, but I am to tired to.

In a nutshell:

Obsession with the way you look = bad, cause you prolly are awesome already

Eating junk and not doing sports = makes you fugly

Eating healthy = essential, cause you need to be healthy to be awesome. No size zero and perfect skin needed.

Nuff said?

Excuse me while I go off and eat Nutella straight from the jar.

Gefährliche Geliebte. by Haruki Murakami

I can't tell if there is any "plot" in this book. If I should tell what this book is about, i'd say it's about a man, the way he loves and his search for a purpose or fullfillment in life.
Haruki Murika has a way beautiful way to describe moods, situations and feelings. This novel tapped somehow in my subconscious and left a taste, like you one time were at some place but you forgot where.
The only thing I don't like is the ending, but this is just a matter of personal taste.

About a Boy by Nick Hornby

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I read some Nick Hornby books, and this is by far the one I liked most. His writing style is easy to read, entertaining but also touching. There are whole passages in the book which I could quote that I loved. Also it made me want to listen to Nirvana again - it captioned the whole 90s era pretty well.

Kurzweiliges Buch über den Büroalltag, ich dem zumindest ich mich desöfteren wieder erkannt habe. Die Tipps klingen nicht so weit hergeholt, wobei die Darstellungsweise bzw. die Argumentation zT etwas polemisch anmutet.

Die Sünde der Brüder by Diana Gabaldon

Another solid Lord John novel from Diana Gabaldon. I like the character very much, as well as the setting and the historical details. What I didn't like in this book particular was the suspense plot. It felt not really worked out. Also the half plot Jamie Fraser was absolutely unneccessary in this book. If I hadn't read the Highlander books, I had hated the character based on how he acted in this novel.
Other than that an easy and enjoyable read.

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Finally a fantasy book with fantasy again ;) I loved the ideas Neil Gaiman put in this book. I've seen a documentation once about those underground stations, and that beggars live there. The thought is creepy that the underground people really exist (well maybe without door, De Carabas, giant monsters etc.) I'll never be able to drive by sub in London again without taking a really close look at the people around me.

Saphirblau by Kerstin Gier

Wieder ein witziges, gut durchdachtes Buch von Kerstin Gier. Ich mag diese Zeitreisen-Theorie in diesem Buch, und auch die Geheimnisse die Gwen nach und nach aufdeckt sowie die schrulligen aber liebenswerten Charaktere. Der einzige Wehrmutstropfen an diesem Buch war, dass die Geschichte aprupt anfängt und wieder aufhört. Eine kleine Zusammenfassung am Anfang was im letzten Buch geschehen ist, wäre hilfreich gewesen. Leider kommen die Bände ja sehr zeitversetzt raus, und bis "Smaragdgrün" erschienen ist, habe ich sicher das wichtigste dieses Buches bereits vergessen. Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass es bei einer Veröffentlichung von September 2010 bleibt, und der letzte Band nicht doch noch auf Frühjahr 2011 verschoben wird.

And I wanted something beautiful I wished for something true

So I've read two of my project books already. I admit, those were the thinnest ones ;) But I enjoyed them, and the more reading does me good. I am now reading "Neverwhere" bei Neil Gaiman. I haven't read a single book by him, and I decided to add him to my list. He gets so much praises and is, like Stephen King, one of the most popular authors in the net.
nocta joins me in this project, and I also copied some books of hers, so my list is pretty full now ;)

Movies I watched this recently:

4. Jane Eyre - 4/5: Good and solid BBC version
05. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - 4/5 (C) - I knew what to expect, and so it was great
06. Miss Austen regrets - 5/5 - such a lovely and touching movie
07. Bright Star - 2/5 - dull. Extremely so.
08. Jane Eyre - 3/5 - ok, but nothing special
09. Avatar 3D - 5/5 (C) - yes, a second time. This movie is just awesome!

Tv Shows this week:

007. How I met your mother - 5x12 - Girl vs. suits: Againa funny episode :D
008. Castle - 2x12 - A Rose for Everafter: I really like the Castle humor. Nice to see Alyssa Milano acting again
009. Leverage - 2x10 - The runway job: I didn't like the story, and I neither like the new one nor Sophie, and I hated how cheap everything looked
010. Dollhouse - 2x12 - Hollow man: Legendary! Dollhouse rocks!
011. Legend of the Seeker - 2x08 - Light - Danna nd Kahlan are soooo pretty. I don't care about the storyline anymore, as long as I get 40 minutes pure eye candy ;)

I was in the cinema with Kathrin this week, and also we went to a nice restaurant to eat something first. Saturday I met up with Verena, and we went to see Avatar. It's nice to not depend on Vreni and Tine that much, and all this movie watching and book reading keeps me away from my gloomy thoughts I got all the time.
