āKefiā is Greek joie de vivre - a word that doesnāt exist in other languages to describe our innate zest and enthusiasm for life. It can be a heightened moment of euphoria at a party or simply a fleeting feeling that all is as it should be in the world as you do something as simple as cook a meal for yourself. I feel as though this word is fitting for my life philosophy: I simply want to juice life for all its got and I get a deep pleasure from living my life.
Thatās what this newsletter is all about: bringing you all a little of my kefi, wherever in the world you happen to be.
Iām a journalist and author whoās spent the past decade cooking and conserving the time-perfected recipes and stories of the worldās grandmothers. Inspired by my formidable Greek Yiayia, Iāve written three books on the subject of cooking with grandmothers: Yiayia: Time-perfected Recipes from Greeceās Grandmothers, MEDITERRANEA: Life-perfected Recipes from grandmothers of the Mediterranean and Grand Dishes.
