Casa Vega is a longstanding Mexican restaurant on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks that carries a definite old-school Los Angeles vibe. With over six decades in the neighborhood, the place holds onto a moody, dimly lit atmosphere that feels like stepping into a retro lounge or a scene from a Tarantino movie—minus the theatrics. It’s the kind of spot where the walls breathe history and kitsch, creating a familiar, comfortable frame for a relaxed night out or a casual gathering.

The restaurant’s strength lies in its authentic California-Mexican menu. Favorites like the Casa Vega Burrito, Carne Asada Burrito, and Chicken Mole show up alongside reliably satisfying shareables such as Queso Fundido, Tortilla Chips with their signature salsa, and Mexican Shrimp Cocktail. A notable mention is their Molcajete, which reflects the traditional flavors you’d expect at a venue steeped in Mexican culinary culture. The margaritas, especially the classic and Cadillac varieties, consistently draw praise for being strong yet balanced, hinting at why many choose Casa Vega for evening drinks paired with dinner.

This is a place that suits a variety of visitors: locals looking for a dependable spot to unwind with a solid margarita and hearty Mexican fare, groups seeking a casual sit-down for celebrations or shared meals, and those who appreciate a dining room layered with nostalgic LA charm. Vegetarian options like the Enchiladas Ranchero show the menu is mindful of diverse dietary preferences, though the meat dishes tend to be the main draw.

While the food generally earns high marks, the service can be a mixed experience. Several patrons have noted that waitstaff might not be the most attentive, which sometimes disrupts the otherwise comfortable flow of the evening. Still, the combination of atmosphere and food seems to outweigh these service hiccups for many guests.

The best time to visit is likely in the early evening when the dim lighting complements the laid-back lounge feel, and the restaurant isn’t overwhelmingly busy. Casa Vega is not just about the food, but also about soaking up a piece of Sherman Oaks’ dining history, making it a preferred spot for those who value character along with their meal.

It's Christmas Time at Casa Vega!!! This place is a staple for a reason. The quality and atmosphere hasn't changed and I don't think it ever will. Best margheritas in town and such a delight to always take a seat and soak in the history.

Casa Vega nails the nostalgic California-Mexican atmosphere—it’s dark, moody, and wrapped in that old-school charm that makes you feel like you’re stepping into a Quentin Tarantino frame (which, let’s be honest, you probably are). It’s got just enough kitsch to feel authentic-ish without crossing into parody, and that’s exactly what I come for. The margaritas? Excellent. Strong, balanced, and flowing. The service? Also excellent—friendly, efficient, and on top of the chaos, even when the place is buzzing. It’s a fun, high-energy spot that’s perfect for a night out with friends when you want some throwback LA ambiance and a good buzz. Where Casa Vega stumbles is the food. It’s not bad, it’s just… underwhelming. You’re paying a premium for the scene, not the salsa. The dishes are fine, but they don’t really outpace what you’d find at your neighborhood spot for half the price. So yes, go for the vibe, the drinks, and the memories. Just manage your food expectations and you’ll leave happy. Four stars.

This is hands down THE BEST authentic MEXICAN food. The fresh salsa was amazing with a hint of spice. We drove over an hour to get there. The atmosphere is dim but pleasing to the eye. Our waiter wasn't the most friendly and follow through guy, but the food made up for that. I’m a vegetarian and I ordered the Enchiladas Ranchero and my boyfriend ordered the Carne Asada. Oh and the Cadillac margarita was top notch for sure! I cannot wait to go back! AMAZING!!! This place should have 5 stars for sure!!!!

Iconic spot in LA did not disappoint. We really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The service was lacking, but its so hard to find places that take great care of their patrons. Were only asked if we needed more drinks once and never did receive our water refill that we asked for. After asking for boxes and the bill 3 times, we finally received them. Fun location and venue, amazing food. We would return.

This place has so much charm! It had been around for over 60 years and still feels like an old school lounge with good food. The molcajete was very good, as was the chips and salsa.

CV has been a staple for a long time. Great food, great drinks, great vibe all around. The food is usually really delicious but recently hasn't been as good as it should be (especially for the price). Overall, I love coming here and hope they keep everything high quality like it's always been!

This place is historic and is also absolutely one of my favorite places to visit a close friend of mine and I decided to stop here and we had to have the quesadillas. He got his mistake and cheese, but I had to add jalapeños to mine and I didn’t regret it. The service was incredibly friendly and always very classy. You’re always greeted promptly when you walk in and of course, if you have an extra $10 the valet parking makes it worth it. I had a wonderful lunch here. I’m gonna come back and try some more stuff but I am absolutely going to make sure this place knows I am super thankful for the great service an amazing food!

Great food, vibe and margaritas. What more do you need? Staff are great. Definitely recommend checking this place out. My friend told me the Kardashians have come here as well if you are into that.
