Introducing my 2026 Active Transportation Grant Funding Guide. I’ve compiled major federal, state/provincial, and big-city funding programs (U.S. and Canada) that can pay for bike lanes, sidewalks, protected intersections, traffic calming, or anything else that makes walking and cycling safer and more practical. This includes 2026 grant amounts, deadline estimates, eligible uses, and match rules that are scattered across dozens of websites. I’ve created an Excel spreadsheet you can download with all of this grant information as well.

I’ve also included specific grant writing tips that come from my professional experience, local match reducer tips that can make these grants far more affordable for local governments, and a list of 4 over-subscribed grants that are very competitive.

Everything is paid-subscriber-only because it is meant for the people who actually have to write the applications or convince their council to apply. If you are staff, a consultant, or a serious advocate who needs to win grants this cycle, this guide should save you hours of work.

Enjoy!
