I'm a wife and mother of two, now almost fully-fledged youngsters, tying to catch up on what I've missed in the adult world over the last couple of decades due to immersion in parenthood. My children grew up with Harry Potter, which they grew out of long before before I did. Prompted into action by the sudden onset of an embarrassing infatuation with Alan Rickman as Professor Snape and the resultant urge to research... I acquired my own laptop, and discovered fanfic. I had a lot of catching up to do!

Since the start of 2009, have been suffering from a second mid-life crisis involving Sherlockmania and acute Brettishness in particular. Spurred by a decision to read the entire ACD canon before the release of the new film starring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, my focus has shifted almost entirely onto the independent consulting detective in all his guises. The Granada series starring Jeremy Brett was an absolute clincher, and I'm still happily devouring tales of Holmes and Watson in all media, and learning more about the loverly JB.

Holmes of choice? JB every time, although I'll give Benedict Cumberbatch a fair chance to show his flair in a more modern setting. Watson of choice? Difficult! David Burke, Edward Hardwicke, Vitaly Solomin and Martin Freeman all bring such humanity to the role. But there's only one who's sexy at the same time – for sheer hotness, Jude Law is in a class of his own!

Also, seeing Teh Man for real, in the eponymous role, John Gabriel Borkman by Henrik Ibsen, at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, November 2010 http://captivebird.livejournal.com/2010/11/13/

And at last, if not come true, at least a dream! http://captivebird.livejournal.com/2011/08/13/

Update: Since the advent of BBC Sherlock, summer 2010, have subsequently been well and truly Cumberbatched. :-))

Trying to keep a straight face...
