His eyes were tired and he massaged them gently, mindful of the healing scratches that decorated his forehead and one cheek. It had been a long and rough week.

He sat with his eyes closed for awhile, listening to the tap of the rain and the muted sound of an occasional car passing on the highway. It was close to midnight. A soft sound caused him to open his eyes again and, without thinking, he asked a question he had wanted to ask for a while.

“Who were you?”

She had been standing by the scratched up old dresser, carefully sewing up a tear in her jacket with the little sewing kit that Sam carried with his supplies.

She turned to look at him, frowning slightly, her eyes shadowed in the light thrown from the two lamps in the musty smelling motel room.

“What?”

Sam sighed, regretting his question. He leaned his head back against the pillow and pulled the scratchy blanket up closer against the chill damp air coming in through the open window.

“I asked who you were…you know…a long time ago.”

“Before I was a demon you mean?”

She looked back down, smoothing the fabric in her hand.

“I was…I was nobody. Just a stupid young girl.”

“Was Ruby your name then too?”

“Yes.”

“Did you have a family? Parents?”

She tossed the jacket over the back of a chair and crossed the room to the open window. It was still raining a little and the wind was picking up. The motel sign was across from their room and it shone through the cracking blinds, flickering its light across her face.

“Everyone has to have parents, Sam, or they wouldn’t be born.”

“But do you remember yours?”

“Yes. A little.”

“Do you…miss them?”

“They’ve been dead a long time. And…I’ve been a demon for a long time. They’re just…pictures in my mind now, blurred and meaningless.”

“And?”

“And I don’t…miss them.”

Sam thought about that for a few moments, his long fingers worrying at the fraying edge of the blanket. His wrist ached, a reminder of an old injury.

“Did they die during the Plague?”

“It doesn’t matter anymore, Sam.”

“Alright.”

He smiled softly. It did matter, he could tell.

“Soooo…why did you do it?”

“Do what?”

“Become a witch.”

“Sam…”

“Indulge me. I’m…curious.”

She watched him over her shoulder, her arms crossed defensively over her chest. He wondered if it was a habit from long ago, when she was human, or if it was a reaction to the past few months of upheaval. She turned back to face the window and finally spoke again.

“The world…the world wasn’t a good place when I lived, Sam. Especially for a female. You’re smart, Sam. You’ve studied history. You know what it must have been like during that time. I had the opportunity to learn to protect myself. And I did.”

“Do you regret it? The path you walked to end up here…now?”

“Regret’s a useless emotion, Sam.”

“You…regret…what happened to Dean.”

She turned and paced across the room, restless now, her dark eyes roving.

“He didn’t deserve what he got.”

Sam swallowed hard, wanting to ask but not knowing if he could handle it yet, the wounds were too fresh.

“Please don’t ask me about him, Sam. I won’t tell you.”

He nodded.

“Okay.”

*Possible SPOILERS*

Click here to see the latest rumor about the show...it's a doozy:

A huge Winchester Family spoiler

Well, I'm not all jumping up and down and believing it immediately. And I'm not sure what I think about it. And I have very big doubts that they could cast anyone who would "fit" with Dean and Sam. And why bring this into the show? Don't they have enough to work on with all the angels and demons and still hunting other things too? Plus Dean's nowhere near being over his ordeal, Sam's fooling around with demon Ruby, isn't that enough?

Let's say it is true. Hopefully the other son would be younger than Sam, if not then John cheated on Mary. He might even be a teenager which wouldn't be too bad. But I DON'T want anything in the way of Dean and Sam's relationship. It's just hard to fit a third person in. I don't think Dean or Sam would take the news real well, not because John had another son but that he kept it from them.

Hmmmmm...I'm not doing so well in posting here am I? There just hasn't been too much to say, same old thing going on. I'm not insane yet but my hasband seems to have me on a one way track there.

Let's see...I tried to sleep late on this wonderful day off work. Couldn't do it. Kept having to get up to pee, my back was breaking in half, and I kept hearing Mr. Doom going in and out the squeaky back door. I got up, read a few things, went to the bank, drove through a downpour which knocked out traffic lights and flooded streets, that's always fun, and visited the libbrary where I took my sweet time and came out with a bunch of Robert B. Parker books I want to re-read plus two new, I think, Star Trek books about Spock. Then I cooked supper. Should I nominate it in the most boring day contest?

Hello, hello, trying to get my new journal up and running. While I'm at work, probably a no-no but the place is literally dead this morning And I need to do something to keep me from falling asleep.

Hmmmmm...I see a lot of people have their journal Friends Only but since this one is still virtually empty, and my friends list is curently very slim, I think it'll be okay for a while as it is.

Speaking of friends...if you run across this journal and you are a die hard fan of Star Wars or Supernatural, feel free to friend me. I love to talk about my favorite subjects. I've been a Star Wars fan since I could barely talk and Supernatural is a newer obsession. I like other things too, of course, but those stand out.
