This post has been up for two days and my photobucket account made specifically for this community is already over it's bandiwdth. 104.6% over the bandwidth in two days. Either my post was really popular or people have been hotlinking. My bet is that someoone hotlinked to a place that many people visit often. tutorial: Hilary Duff rock it icon

Tutorial for making this icon in PS7:

1) I start with this image of Hilary Duff.

2) I go to image > image size and make it so that the height is 100 pixels (the width will automatically adjust to 66). Click okay and it's resized.

3) Open a new file that's 100x100 (file > new). Copy the image of Hilary Duff and paste it onto this new 100x100 canvas. Move it to the left.

4) Go to filter > sharpen > sharpen to sharpen it. However, it still looks a bit blurry to me so I use the sharpening tool from. Be sure not to over sharpen.

5) Now I use the below brushed base by colorfilter and copy and paste it onto a new layer on my icon. I use the eraser tool (one of those default air-brushy brushes at size 5) to erase the parts of the base covering Hilary.

6) New layer, and I apply the below gradient by crumblingwalls with the layer mode at soft light.

7) Now it's time for text! First I do a line of tiny text (Times New Roman, size 2, spacing 900, #E90000) and place it next to Hilary.

8) Then I add "ROCK IT" in Times New Roman, size 9, spacing 75, #E90000 and there you go, the icon is finished.

tutorial: envy icon

Tutorial for making this icon in PS7:

1) I start with this image of a model.

2) I go to the cropping tool on the toolbar and have my settings set to this:
Width: 100 px ;; Height: 100px ;; Resolution: (blank box) pixels/cm
This will let you crop to an exact square and when you crop it, photoshop will automatically resize it to 100x100.

3) I crop and get the first image below. I then duplicate the base and sharpen it to get the second image.

4) I usually over sharpen (which is why I always duplicate the base before sharpening anything), which is what just happened. To make it look more normal, I set the opacity to 68%.

5) I used the gradient below (by crumblingwalls) on a new layer and set the layer to soft light.

6) New layer again and I use this brush. I'm not sure who it's by (they're probably credited in my resources post), but if you know exactaly who it's by, let me know. Anyways, you see how there's a big circle-y thing at the bottom? It's about that part that I put on the icon (in white). Some of it covered the girl, so I erased some. Now I have this:

7) New layer, next brush is this brush by dearest. I apply the brush in the color #7CB184, layer mode color.

8) I write "ENVY" in Times New Roman 8pt, Crisp, 600 spacing in #095515. (If you don't know how to do spacing, ask and I'll show you.) It's too light, so I copy the layer.

9) You could stop here I guess, but I thought that the E wasn't too easy to read. I made a new layer underneath the text and used one of those default Photoshop airbrush brushes (size 17) in #C2CBA1 to make a line underneath the text. It sort of covered up the two lines on the wall in the image so I use another Photoshop brush. This time, it's the square brushe (it's not default, so if you don't have it in your brush menu, click on that little arrow thing next in the brushes menu and click on "square brushes". I used a size 1 brush in #838966 and went over the lines a few times.

9) Ta da! Final icon!
