Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between Camunda 8 SaaS and Self-Managed?

The difference between Camunda 8 SaaS and Self-Managed is that Self-Managed runs on your computer or your infrastructure, and SaaS is managed by Camunda. You can try SaaS for free for 30 days or run Camunda on your system indefinitely. Note: You need a license if you want to use Camunda for production.

If you want to run it for yourself, we recommend using Camunda 8 Run (a small Camunda distribution), which gives you a complete orchestration cluster ready to be used on your machine. It’s not supposed to be used in production, though.

If you are looking to migrate to Camunda 8, we provide tools and help along the way. Start by orienting yourself by reading the migration journey to see how migration works on an example project.

Camunda provides an official SDK for Java (including Spring Boot) and JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js), plus language‑agnostic integration via REST and gRPC.

Camunda allows you to build, deploy, run, and manage AI agents. You can also use Camunda to orchestrate third-party agents in business processes. Camunda Marketplace offers free connectors for popular AI/ML tools such as OpenAI, Google Gemini, and AWS SageMaker. Camunda also includes AI copilots that help you design and implement business processes.
