Pathetic, self-pitying and gratuitous capslockranting alert (under the cut)

I am one of those rare people who has worked in the same place for a long time, and as a consequence, I have the particular "first world" problem associated with what I might call "lunch fatigue", but you might (more accurately) call "stop moaning about it and bring in your own lunch, there are more important problems". Which is to say that, of all the many chains and purveyors of cheap luncheon to the masses that have outlets within 200m of my place of work, I have, over the last 20 odd years, partaken many times. And therefore, despite the large selection available to me, by virtue of my location in the heart of this great city, all too often I find myself wandering around the area at 1 o'clock -ish, looking longingly in shop windows and thinking, "don't fancy that, don't fancy that, don't fancy that. Nope, not that, either. Not that, red peppers. Not that, too unhealthy, not that, too healthy, that won't fill me up, ooh Greggs steak slice yumm wait no too unhealthy, buggerit."

Routinely. By which, I mean every time I don't get round to bringing in my own lunch.

By far the most irritating recent trend has been the tendency of ALL the outlets to put red peppers in EVERYTHING, regardless of whether it has any place there. In my opinion, red bell peppers have no place in the human diet at all. Why? Because they taste bitter, they taint everything they touch with a powerful and revolting sickliness, and (above all) they play havoc with my elderly digestive system. Although I do respect that in some cuisines and cultures red peppers may be appropriate (although to be honest I can't think of one right now), with all the choice around here of cuisines from round the world, it should be possible for me to escape them, right?

Wrong.

So. Dear purveyors of fast food to the masses. Here is a quick reminder.

Red bell peppers have no place in sushi owners of EVERY SUPERMARKET IN THE UK, I'M LOOKING AT YOU, TESCO, WAITROSE, SAINSBURY, AND PRET A MANGER. IT'S FISH AND RICE, DIMBULB!
Red bell peppers have no place in laksa DO NOT SUBSTITUTE RED BELL PEPPER FOR CHILLI! Owners of 'EAT' - IF YOU DON'T LIKE CHILLI, DON'T EAT LAKSA!

Positive thought for the day: I'm very much enjoying BBC3's Queer Britain, hosted by the thoughtful and engaging Riyadh Khalaf. I read today that he has a youtube channel as well. He talks candidly about a wide range of issues including intersectionality, body shaming and racism within the LGBT+ community. I like him a lot. *RECS*.
