Friday Fictioneers – The Disfigured Doll

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“This old piano belongs to my first wife. Would you play for me?” asked Charles to Ruby, his girlfriend.

Ruby sat in front of the piano and removed a disfigured doll. Slowly, she started tuning the piano.

Just as she was finding music, she heard a scream.

“How dare you throw my grandson’s toy to the floor? Who are you?”

Ruby saw an old woman with dishevelled hair and wrinkled dress in the foot of the stairs.

“This is my mother-in-law.” said Charles, embarrassed and resigned. He waited for her to leave.

But, Ruby picked the toy from the floor, dusted it and walked to the old lady. “I am so sorry. Tell me about your grandson.” she said, softly.

Marina Sanders – Picture it & Write

tumblr_mnw305fv5q1s9yfq0o1_500

Marina Sanders stepped on the road apprehensively. Her car was unexpectedly under repair and she decided to walk after a few hard words with her driver.

“Mom! Look! There is a ghost in a black dress.” said a child.

“Be quiet!” scolded the mother. She looked up to apologize. “Why, it is Marina Sanders, the actress.” the mom said, startled.

Marina hurried past her. She tried to walk fast when she looked at a group of tough drunk men. But, they passed by her without a glance.

No one noticed her for the next fifteen minutes. Marina raised her long gown a little when she beheld muddy water. Someone shouted, “There is Marina Sanders. I would recognize her legs anywhere.”

All of a sudden, a group of people hovered around her.

Alastair’s Photo Fiction – Lovers and the Cop

11-06-june-9th-2013

Sameer leaned over Sapna, whispering something. She giggled.

“Hello! “said a soft voice.

They both turned back, startled. It was a policeman, standing near a chopped tree.

“This is a public park for kids. Can you go elsewhere?”

Sameer and Sapna sat in the beach, conversing in hushed voices.

“Hello!” said a loud voice. It was the same policeman. “This is a beach for families and the elderly. Can you take this elsewhere?”

Now, Sapna and Sameer stood outside the latter’s apartment, talking.

“Hello!” They both turned to him, exasperated. “This is a dangerous time. There are thieves on the prowl..’

They both went their separate ways, wondering if he was an apparition sent by fate to separate them.

The policeman, a bachelor, went to his empty house wondering if the omnipresent couple were sent by fate to mock his loneliness.

The New Party – Alastair’s Photo Fiction

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA

“Shall we have the spinning wheel as a symbol for our new party?” asked Harry

“No. We’ll have the laptop.” said Bill

“The spinning wheel symbolizes hard work.”

“And the laptop means speed, technology and modernization.”

“50 per cent representation for women?” asked Harry, hopefully

“Ha! No way. No representations. Let them make their way in with hard work.” said Bill, with finality

“We will call it, ‘Workers’ Reformist Party’”

“No! It’d be, ‘The Trendy Modern Party’”

“There needs to be a reduction in defence expenditure.”

“Of course not. The defence gets the maximum priority. Now, coming to the foreign policy..”

“Forget it! I’ll start my own party and you can push on with yours.”

Everywhere – Friday Fictioneers

window-dressing-janet-webb

When Navin visited Sameer after a long time, he did not expect to see ladies’ stuff strewn all around.

“I thought you writers needed cleanliness.”

“My wife just throws them everywhere. Anyway, it suits me. A ‘tidy’ house stifles my imagination.” said Sameer.

The balcony was comparatively empty, with a lone red dress in the drying stand.

As Navin took his leave and walked out, he met his friend, Chand.

“Returning from Sameer’s place? How is he? asked Chand, anxiously.

“Very enthusiastic..”

“His wife passed away last month. Did you notice a prominent red dress? That was what she was wearing.”
