A Prayer
9/15/2025
Lord we ask so much of you. We ask for revival, we ask for moves of Your Spirit, we ask for healing of our grief and pain. Perhaps you have already given it all to us already. You have already given Your presence, already given your life for us. Maybe all we need to do is accept it. And that isn’t apathy from you, an abandonment. Lord we know you see us in our situation, you weep with those who weep and rejoice with those rejoice. Perhaps all we should be praying for is to experience what you have already offered. Maybe I don’t need to see you work in the ways I’ve seen before. Maybe I don’t need to expect a new prophetic word, I don’t need to try and convince You to set off a ‘revival.’ Lord you are already working. Would You open our eyes to what You are doing, would You open my heart to the grace, love, and self that You have already offered. Would we not need to see you move in a way you have before but instead be ready to see you move in a new way. Would we not be discouraged by change but instead be encouraged by your promise of Your working in us and the world.
We know there is power in testimony. Lord we can all look back and see Your goodness, truth, and beauty in our lives. Perhaps our experiences of participation in You should not dictate our how. Lord You are so Good and we get to experience that goodness. However I pray we don’t seek after a ‘similar’ experience but rather seek after You. We are not here to pursue a feeling, a memory, a particular experience. Instead we are here to pursue You, and we know that as we draw closer to You we participate in You. In our pursuit of You we a drawn up towards You. Would You Lord be our passion, would we see You above all else. Lord would you meet us in our pursuit as you draw us closer to You and as You lower yourself to us.
Amen.
PS: I am currently struggling through exactly what our prayer should look like. I have seen a push away from asking of God things such as healing and direction, which I do not agree with. I believe petitioning God is an important factor in our prayer life, and we are even given specific instruction on asking for healing. I’m simply saying I think at times we would be better off simply receiving.
