What is a Force Vector?
Easily Explained with 5 Examples!

Gosh, this is such hard work! Ever said that?

Well, work happens when a Force is applied to an object, and this lesson is all about how much force is needed to get things done!

What we need to know to handle these types of questions, either in Physics or Precalculus, is that everything boils down to Component Forces!

What’s are Component Forces, you may ask?

Well, Component Forces are simply two or more forces working together.

In fact, when they act on an object simultaneously, they create what is called a Resultant Force, or Equalibriant, as Brightstorm points out.

Using component forces and resultant forces to solve problems

Find the Magnitude of the Force Exerted

We will explore how this Resultant Force helps us to

  • Find the angle between two known forces
  • Explain how two people can pick up an object and move it from one place to another
  • Moves objects up or down an inclined-plane (i.e., pushing a block of ice up a ramp, keeping a car from rolling down a hill, or pulling in a boat from a lake)

These types of real-life problems are fun to tackle and can help us to make sense of the world around us, as Khan Academy states.

This lesson relies heavily on our knowledge of vectors and rigid motion, as well as the ever powerful Right Triangle and SOH-CAH-TOA!
