This morning, our Chief Human Capital Officer, Mr. Gape Sebonego took to the stage amongst other HR leaders to share insights on the Future of Work in Africa at the 9th Strategic HR Conference by the Progressive Institute. The conference theme was set on the impact and effects of AI, the need for Labour Reforms and Human-centred leadership, “all very critical aspects of any workplace in today’s automated and tech-led world”, said Gape. Despite all the research and agile deployment of AI in the workplace, he shared a profound word of caution and encouragement that; “No one has the playbook for AI. The capex is staggering, the winners are unknown, and catastrophic failures are guaranteed. But sitting on the sidelines isn't an option — in many of these markets, the winner takes it all. It is with profound sadness that we share the passing on of our beloved colleague and friend, Metseatsile Lesogo, who left us on Saturday 30th May 2026. “Metse” as we affectionately called her was a long-time member of the MascomFamily having joined in 2005. A “Girl in ICT” Metse was a Senior Engineer – Network Optimisation. Metse was a Mascom values champion. She boldly and effortlessly displayed “Open & Effective Communication” never shy to share her opinions and ask thought provoking questions. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Lesogo Family. May Metse’s soul rest in eternal peace. Forever #MascomFamily.

Our CEO, Ms. Dzene Makhwade-Seboni, also Co-Chair of Unicef Botswana CEO's Council on Children’s Rights, hosted different sector CEO's from tourism, financial services, manufacturing to telecommunications and technology. The meeting was also honoured by the First Lady of the Republic of Botswana, Ms. Kaone Boko who is committed to advancing children’s rights in Botswana. As Mascom, we partnered with the Goodhope District Council and Huawei to commission our flagship Smart Classroom Initiative where we transformed old kitchen facilities into smart classrooms, in four villages. These smart classrooms have introduced pre-primary learning to 120 students and provide STEAM centered learning. Additionally, we provided digital training to school girls and out-of-school youth in Hukuntsi and reached over 45 000 learners with our cybersecurity awareness and training camp. #Mascom  #AdvancingChildrensRights #Tech
