I am REALLY a fan of the multi-step Korean skincare regimen. I looked at my face today when I went to wash it this morning (er...okay, so it was like 3pm, sue me) and I really noticed a difference. Texture is better, it's plumper, so soft, and there's even less redness! That last one is a miracle, because I turn red for EVERYTHING. It's like permanent contact dermatitis, nothing helps. Or I thought nothing helped.

My mom thinks I'm crazy and I can understand that. My morning routine is 8 steps and my evening is 11. It's a lot, I'm ngl, but it's kind of soothing. And the fact that I'm seeing results after 1 continuous week (okay, it takes FOREVER to get me into a pattern for anything) is bolstering.

I'll just cut this because it's ridiculous.

MORNING:

Wash face with NOONI Snowflake Whipping Cleanser and I absolutely use their Marshmallow Whip Maker. It might seem gimicky at first, and I'll admit I got it because I just wanted to make bubbles, but I literally use a dot of product less than the size of a pea to wash my entire face and neck, yo. It also breaks it down so it doesn't take as much friction, which helps my delicate flower skin from freaking the fuck out. I've seen claims that it lowers the pH of products but...that's...that's not how chemistry works, so we're going to ignore that. It'll work with any cleanser, even the powders.
Tone with SheaMoisture African Black Soap Problem Skin Toner. I don't really have problem skin anymore, but I really like the effects of African black soap and since I'm not using it elsewhere in my routine, I snagged this when I saw it. SheaMoisture has some amazing products. Originally designed for natural black hair, some of their products aren't too heavy for my limp white girl strands. They're also trying to branch out. I highly rec their Peace Rose Oil hair line and their Manuka Honey hair line.
Serum 1, Radha Beauty Vitamin C Serum. I tried another kind and it smelled really awful? So when this went on flash sale one day and I snapped it up. It's the most watery of all my serums and just rubs right in.
Serum 2, Eva Naturals Peptide Complex Serum. It's a jelly.
Serum 3, Etude House Moistfull Collagen Essence. No, that's not a typo, that's how they spell this line. I used the sleep pack for a long time but Roxie turned me onto this serum. It gives you all the plumping power of the sleep pack without the heaviness that won't work under makeup. Also, it smells a little bit like melons and it's lovely. Kind of a jelly meets a watery texture but a little goes a looooong way.
Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream is next and, again, a little goes a super long way. (Noticing a pattern with the Korean products?) Tbh, I tried their ceramide serum first and had to return it. They put denatured alcohol in it, which to my skin is the same as rubbing alcohol, and it basically burned me. :( I turned bright red and it hurt for hours. I read the ingredients but I'd missed it. I told Roxie was happened (she had no issues with the serum, but she also returned hers after my experience and that's how she found the Etude House serum already mentioned) and she turned me onto the cream. All the benefits of the ceramides I was looking for without the alcohol and none of the greasiness I usually associate with creams.
Dr. Jart+ Water Drop Hydrating Moisturizer for my actualfacts moisturizer. It's so refreshing to go on! A little goes a long way again. AND it can pretty much act as a makeup primer!
Dr. Jart+ Every Sun Day UV Sun Fluid. I literally do my entire face with an amount smaller than a pea. I s2g, American products rip us off and Korean products give you way more than you were expecting. I've found this with Korean makeup, too.

On top of that, I do my makeup. It sounds like a lot! IT IS A LOT! But I have a hand fan I keep at my vanity and it helps to dry between layers (I also do that with my makeup) and it's really pretty quick once you've got the routine down.

EVENING:

Oil wash with safflower oil. Srsly, if you haven't tried oil washing and you wear a full face of makeup like me, give it a go. Different oils do different things. Safflower is pretty gentle, it bonds to dirt, and it doesn't sink in immediately like, say, jojoba. Its smell is also pretty neutral which I appreciate. I keep it in an old pump bottle from one of my previously purchased oil washes that I finished. It takes six little pumps to wash my face (rub in until the makeup breaks down, wipe off with a damp cloth) and one pump for each eye to break down my eye makeup.
Back to the NOONI Snowflake cleanser.
At night, I tone with Etude House Skin [mal:gem] Smoother. It has exfoliating properties and is also a "skin brightener" which is code for whitening. However, it's first job is to even skintone. It will not bleach your skin. But be aware, when buying Korean products, that "brightening" to them means "whitening".
Serum 1 again.
Serum 2, although I'm pondering replacing this at night with a CoQ10 serum. I don't have wrinkles, yet, but I think that's the perfect time to start warding them off.
Serum 3 again.
Ceramide cream again.
Borage oil. My skin isn't dry the way some people get where it's patchy or flaky but I get a little bit of that orange peel texture to my skin when I have makeup on. My research says this is a dehydration problem and since I can't go hard on hydration under my makeup, I make up for it at night. Why borage oil? Because it's known to reduce redness over time.
MIZON All-In-One Snail Repair Cream. Eew, snail slime??? Yup, snail slime! There are peer reviewed studies that found it fights skin cancer and potentially can ward off certain signs of aging. Also, it makes your skin ridiculously soft once it soaks in. Surprise! A little goes a long way.
MIZON Snail Repair Eye Cream. Guess how long a way a little goes?
Etude House Moistfull Collagen Sleeping Pack. It plumps your skin! And it's so soothing and smells good and a little goes a long way. Like, I mean it this time, don't overdo it or it'll feel greasy.

Whew! That's a lot of words.

In other news, I had the mother of all headaches today. :( I managed to kick it by the time mom got home, but it came back about 20 minutes into Newsies on Broadway, which we went to see at the movie theater. It got so bad I thought my vision was going to go for a little bit. UGH.

I loved Newsies, tho. SUCH AN ANGRY JACK THAT WAS. And so much ballet. <3 <3 <3

I have learned, through trying anecdotal remedies, that you can feed a migraine with ice cream and it will help cut the symptoms. I've tried just cold drinks and it doesn't work, so I think it has something to do with how ice cream will cling to the roof of your mouth? In any case, I got an ice cream cone and took four ibuprofen and I no longer feel like there's a tiny dragon in my skull trying to hollow it out for its den. ~~Dracarys.~~

Sadly, because headache wrangling involved a lot of sleep today, I did not get my nails did. I should do it tomorrow but I also have to go grocery shopping tomorrow and timing logistics... I can't go past this weekend, tho. I've got at least a 1/4" of natural nail at the base and it looks awful. AND THEY'RE TOO DAMN LONG.

So I posted that risotto recipe I talked about, if anyone's interested. Do we still do communities? It's my community, so I guess it doesn't matter. :p It was an experiment, I don't usually want sausage in my risotto, but it ended up great.

Pro-tip: if arborio seems too expensive, find one of the places that sells food to restaurants that also allows the public. I happen to have a Chef'Store nearby and I got a 10 lb. bag of arborio for $14.

Crimson Peak

We went to see Crimson Peak today! It was so good. It's definitely a horror movie, don't let anyone tell you different; Gothic Horror has its own special spin, but there is blood and gore aplenty in this movie.

It's also excellent. Wonderful acting by the whole cast, solid plot, great special effects, and the costuming and set decoration, omg. I knew Mia Wasikowska was playing Edith, Tom Hiddleston was playing Thomas, and Jessica Chastain was playing Lucille. I even knew that Charlie Hunnam was playing Alan. But I didn't know Jim Beaver was playing Edith's father Carter or that Burn Gorman was playing the detective Holly. :) That was neat.

And you get to see Hiddleston's butt!

I loved the ghost concepts, I loved how you had to learn to see everything the way it's meant to be seen, and I loved the creepy house that basically bleeds throughout the movie. Seriously, perfect Halloween movie, go and see it.

It was 3 am when I started this, so you get fandom babble.

Ugh. I woke up to pee and then just...did not feel like going back to sleep. That was about an hour ago. Nap Day was a mistake yesterday. Pumpkin is happily snoring under my comforter and Caprice is asleep on the other side of the bed, but they'll both follow me out here when they realize I'm gone.

I'm back to reading Stony! (kita, I am absolutely going to start Ghost Story tomorrow; I meant to bring it to bed with me, realized I'd forgotten it, then was too lazy to get up.) I read a cute Iron Chef AU and now I'm on some kind of random college AU where Steve's a quarterback and Tony's a...nerd. I always have to suspend my disbelief really hard on these because no one ever remembers Tony'd graduated MIT by 17.

I recently read the Reciprocity series by osprey_archer and that was some fantastic Stucky where Bucky's basically rebuilding himself and Steve is trying to be his rock. But the most wonderful part of it is how she characterizes Bucky. We have a huge influx of broken!Bucky and blank!Bucky and gentle!Bucky in the fandom but she goes for asshole!Bucky and it's GREAT; I just feel like this kind of stuff would not predispose you to being polite. I also like her take on his time with the Russians because it feels more in line with the comic books, at least How They Treated Him-wise.

So...anybody into The Strain? I haven't read the books, yet, but I kind of adore the tv show. I hate Eph for obvious reasons, but Vasiliy is my favorite and I would allow him and Setrakian on my team for strigoi killing. It's one of the few shows I watch that I cannot eat during, though. Something about the fucking worms, man. Ugh.

I am...behind on so many shows! I'm really terrible about it. I haven't seen the last two episodes of last season's SHIELD, nor any of this season; I only saw the first episode of this season's Hannibal (another show I can't eat during!); I'm YEARS behind on The Walking Dead and my mother's been pushing me to pick up Fear the Walking Dead; Amy's been asking me to catch up on Superantural (I stopped after the Wizard of Oz episode; I freaking hated it, sorry, not sorry); Teen Wolf I'm missing last season and this one; then there's so, so many others. I never actually STARTED The Originals, but I think I have all of it on my DVR. I'm a bad person. (It's weird how, when given the choice of fiction media, I gravitate toward horror/supernatural but when given the choice of what to watch when I'm feeling anxious, which is all the time, I gravitate toward true crime. Because nothing says, "Everything's okay!" like shows about murder, I guess.)

My movie watching was derailed by my back injury (movie seats and sitting in the same place for two hours, you know), but I'm going to see Crimson Peak this weekend. And I've watched a few of the movies I own but had never seen recently. What We Do in the Shadows is hilarious and I highly recommend it. We made Debbie watch Pitch Perfect but none of us have seen the sequel, yet. We made Roxie watch The Princess Bride because she had never seen it and that was just wrong.

Last year, I watched a British vampire movie that Google Play labels as Hunted but you can only find info on the internet under Rupert. It was surprisingly good. Not at all what I expected.

We watched Lucy a few weeks ago. Ugh, what a waste of talent. Like, it could have been good, I guess, even when you have to ignore How Science Works, but it just...wasn't. I wanted to like it, we all did, but by the end, we were like, "Why did we waste our time on that?" I wish I hadn't bought it, tbh. I have a bad habit of buying movies that look interesting when I'm half asleep, forgetting about it, then being all, "Oh, what's this?" when I'm looking for something to watch.

Age of Ultron was kind of a massive disappointment. Like...I did like it; I did. James Spder's Ultron was adorable. But I expected more out of it and I really hated some of the forced elements in it. Joss Whedon, you can do better. I'm all for rareships, but give us some warning, yes? EVERYONE had expected Clintasha; even the actors expected Clintasha. I feel like Black Hulk came out of nowhere and then...went nowhere. Did he just forget about Betty? Also, Clint's married? Half of fandom screamed TAHITI, but that's some serious retconning if they go that route. Idk, I was just...it was okay, I bought it, but I wanted it to be better.

Fury Road, though. Wow. Not only is it a spectacular Mad Max movie but they managed to make it without being sexist. *slow clap for George Miller* I have waxed poetic on the fight scene between Max and Furiosa several times on Tumblr by now so I feel like I should shut up about it, but damn. Hearteyes. And the practical FX! *bites knuckle*

Oh! Kingsman was way, way better than I thought it would be. Debbie and I saw it because it was the only thing at all interesting and both of us loved it. Until I saw Fury Road, Harry Hart's fight scene in the church was, hands down, the best fight scene choreography I've ever seen that didn't come out of a straight up martial arts film. And how adorable is Taron Egerton?
