Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release: 12.04

2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-calc
libreoffice-calc:
  Installed: 1:3.5.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:3.5.3-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.5.3-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages

3) What is expected to happen in a blank Calc spreadsheet is when one types in cell A1:
<email address hidden>

clicks Enter, then highlights the cell and clicks F2, one may edit the hyperlink.

4) What happens instead is that the hyperlink is uneditable this way.

WORKAROUND: Highlight the cell -> click Insert -> Hyperlink.

Confirming this bug for openoffice.org-calc=1:2.3.1-3ubuntu2 (Hardy). The other annoying little bit is that if you click on the cell with the email address it will automatically try to compose an email.

Hope this is the right place to add a comment. I am using openoffice 2.3 under simplymepis 7.0 - which i presume uses the ubuntu package. If I type an email address into a cell in Calc - it changes colour to blue with a grey background and then refuses to allow any editing. I cannot even highlet/select the cell!! It has also added the typed address into each cell as around 3-4 point when the column is clearly formatted for 12 point. Then when I try to print, it prints the whole page as 4 point which is unreadable!! This cannot be changed anywhere - it makes Calc UNUSABLE for any file that has email addresses in it. Come on guys this is more than a LOW priority!!!

OK - a possible quick workaround for this bug. Hover mouse over the cell with an email address in it and RIGHT click. If you are lucky you will get a "Default Formatting" option. Click on this and it will change the formatting to the default for the rest of the document. It can then be edited. Well worked for me!

BTW - I can send you an example of a spreadsheet with this problem if you want to see one...

The Hover over the cell and right click does change the formatting for it... However it doesn't keep that setting going forward when typing more.

As the upstream bug is confirmed, this bug should be set to Triaged.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

hello, the bug is still present in LibreOffice 3.4.5 OOO340m1 (Build:502)
(the only possible workaround is for me to disable Tools->AutoCorrect Options->Options->URL recognition, and Format->Clear direct Formatting to un-URL-ize old cells email.)

DavidD, this is:
- a clearcut upstream issue. You are welcome to send this to the developers of the software by following the instructions verbatim at http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport . If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status.
Resolving as Won't Fix in libreoffice (Ubuntu) and LibreOffice Packaging. This does not mean the issue will not be cared about, but if it is cared about (even by Ubuntu/Canonical contributors), it is done upstream at LibreOffice.

I tested this on LibreOffice 3.5.7.2 Build ID: 350m1(Build:2), Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with a HP AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 840T Processor × 4, using 32 bit.
If I enter an email address and press enter, then press F2 I can edit the address in the cell not the status bar where it remains highligted. If I start to edit in the status bar I have to delete the email address and start over. Hope this helps.

Hi Doug - wow this original bug report was a long time ago! I don't think
i have ever had to do this same action again, but thanks for letting me
know the solution.
