PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Following a national search, St. John Fisher College head football coach
Paul Vosburgh has announced the hiring of veteran Ryan Heasley as the program's new offensive coordinator.
"I'm thrilled to announce the hiring of Ryan Heasley as our offensive coordinator," added Vosburgh, who has piloted the Cardinals for over 30 years and has amassed nearly 200 wins in that span. "Ryan's knowledge and high-level experience really stood out to us and will be of great value in helping to carry forward our tradition of excellence both on and off the field.
Heasley comes to Fisher after having recently served as a tight ends coach at Cortland where he helped guide one of the top passing games in the country last season after the Red Dragons posted nearly 5,000 yards and 32 touchdowns through the air en route to the 2021 Empire 8 Championship and a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
"It is both a blessing and an honor to be serving coach Vosburgh, the Cardinal football program and St. John Fisher College as the next Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach," mentioned Heasley. "I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work."
While at Cortland, Heasley, who mentored four all-conference linemen during the 2021 campaign, helped to contribute to an offense that led the conference and ranked second overall in Division III in third down conversions at 54 percent while the Red Dragons' offense scored nearly 41 points on average over 12 games.
"The Department of Athletics is very excited about the hiring of Ryan Heasley as its new offensive coordinator," said
Bob Ward, who has served as the College's Director of Athletics since 1987. "His vast experience in Division III football as a coordinator bodes well for the future of Fisher football. His knowledge, character and enthusiasm were very apparent in the interview process."
Prior to his time on Cortland's sidelines, Heasley served as the offensive line coach and operations coordinator at Division I Saint Francis University where he was responsible for all areas of development, implementation and coaching of the team's offensive line. During his tenure, the Red Flash posted nine wins including a road victory over FBS Liberty University, which marked the biggest win in program history. Along with coaching four All-NEC linemen over a two-year span, Heasley also coached Mike Ames who was named a Campbell Trophy semifinalist in 2018.
Before making the jump to Division I, Heasley served as the offensive coordinator for Ithaca College for six seasons where he helped lead the Bombers to two Empire 8 titles and two NCAA berths including a trip to the Sweet 16.
While on South Hill, Heasley, who prepared, organized and coordinated all areas of the Bombers' game planning, was recognized with two Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year honors and mentored numerous All-Conference selections along with four National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete honorees.
Heasley will inherit a strong corps of returners from last year's squad that ranked third in the Empire 8 in scoring and was fourth overall in passing production. Additionally, the Cardinals were third in the league in passing touchdowns and offensive efficiency.
Heasley is a graduate of Bethany College with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education.
