2021 FBS Sleepers- Quarterbacks

As we approach the potential start of the 2020 season, college recruiting boards have mostly taken shape. Most schools have honed in on their prospects of choice. Still, there are hundreds of rising seniors across the country that will end up playing college ball at a school that hasn’t offered them yet. In this series, we’re looking at 2021 players that we believe should receive late interest from college programs. Next up, quarterback sleepers. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28534" first="Ethan" last="Reid"], 6’4 225, Kings Mountain</strong> Reid picked up an early offer from Akron and a recent offer from VMI. The 6’4, 225-pound signal caller has what might be our favorite throwing motion in the state. He has a compact, quick release that allows the ball to fly out of his hand, something easy to see in his film. He throws a gorgeous deep ball that should have college coaches salivating. It doesn’t hurt that his top target is our No. 1 receiver in the state, but he still spread the ball around well last season. Kings Mountain actually runs the ball a lot more than you’d think considering its quarterback-receiver combination, but Reid is set up for another ridiculous season in 2020. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28564" first="Sully" last="McDermott"], 6’4 210, Marvin Ridge</strong> McDermott had a lot of early interest from Power Five schools as a sophomore, but that seemed to falter a bit when Marvin Ridge didn’t quite match expectations. That doesn’t mean McDermott -- currently offerless -- doesn’t deserve a Division 1 scholarship opportunity. In fact, we have him ranked as our No. 8 quarterback prospect in the state, slightly ahead of several other players with offers. Despite his long frame, McDermott shows excellent footwork in the pocket and is accurate, often throwing the ball to a spot only his guy can get it, even on the run. We expect the offers to come soon. What impresses me most is his ability to make quick decisions and deliver an accurate ball, even on the run. Most of his passes hit his receivers in stride, allowing for yards after the catch. Stallings has the grades to play at any school in the country, so we won’t be surprised to see some of the high-academic schools come calling. &nbsp; <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28584" first="Gabe" last="Johnson"], 6’5 205, Hoggard</strong> One of Wilmington’s best, Johnson is a towering quarterback with a strong arm and lower body. He’s hard to bring down and shows the ability to muscle the ball to a receiver when under pressure. A talented runner, Johnson is attracting attention from FCS and Group of Five schools, highlighted by a recent offer from Middle Tennessee State. Johnson plays some stiff competition out on the coast and should have more opportunities to showcase his skills this year.
