PITTSFORD, N.Y. – With the start of its 51st season on the horizon, head coach Paul Vosburgh of the St. John Fisher University football team has announced the addition of Brees Segala as an assistant coach following a national search.

"We're extremely excited to welcome Brees to the Fisher Family," said Vosburgh, who has guided the Cardinals for over 30 years and is approaching 200 career wins.  "His energy, enthusiasm and experience as a player set him apart in the hiring process and his leadership will be invaluable as we continue to build upon our rich history."

Segala, who graduated from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor's degree in Sport Management earlier this year, helped pilot the Red Dragons to a prolific season after Cortland posted an 11-1 record, won the Empire 8 Championship and reached the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship with Segala under the center.

A nightmare for opposing defenses, Segala was named the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year following his exploits last season as the Webster native completed 199-of-289 attempts for 2,620 yards, 31 touchdowns and just five interceptions over 12 games.  The quarterback was also capable of putting up yards in bunches on the ground after accounting for 382 yards on 106 carries to go along with six more touchdowns.

One of just 15 finalists for the coveted Gagliardi Trophy, which recognizes the top player in Division III each year, Segala was named All-Region by D3football.com in 2021 and was honored for his academic excellence after being inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma Academic Honor Society.

Segala was also active off the gridiron as served as the president of Cortland's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and participated in a number of campus and community-related initiatives including the Yards for Yeardley Walk, Take Back the Night Walk and the Cortland Athletics Community Leaf Raking outing.

Segala will join a program that was among the offensive leaders in the Empire 8 last season and will work primarily with the Cardinals' quarterbacks.
