Jessica Galang, former news editor at BetaKit, will join the reporting team. Read more in this note to staff from editor-in-chief David Skok.

Hi all,

I am absolutely delighted to announce that Jessica Galang will be joining The Logic as a reporter based in Toronto.

Jessica is, simply put, a force of nature. Over the past three years, she has written hundreds of articles on Canada’s tech sector and, in the process, has grown into one of Canada’s preeminent archivists of the tech ecosystem. She has also played a key role in shaping the tech site BetaKit as its news editor, where she cultivated and helped mentor a new generation of voices and talent.

Our commitment to Jessica and our readers is that she’ll get to apply her wealth of experience through a wider lens, putting a spotlight on the countless entrepreneurs and organizations that have helped build an ecosystem that is the envy of the world. But it’s also an ecosystem that, with more capital and attention, has raised expectations, increased pressure and, as a result, left some feeling marginalized—unable to access the opportunity that Canada’s tech ecosystem now affords.

I first saw Jessica moderate a panel at a conference 18 months ago. Her intellect, passion and curiosity was clear. Those characteristics have only been reinforced in the time that I’ve gotten to know her since. She also shares the focus and ambition that you all have—which is so vital to our future success.

Jessica’s arrival—along with the Information Accelerator Program starting next week in San Francisco—will help us sharpen our focus heading into 2019. I couldn’t think of a better way to march in the new year.

Jessica’s first day will be Tuesday.

Please join me in welcoming her to the team.

-David
