When starting Adobe Photoshop 2021 (and several versions before it for the last few years), you may find it annoying that this splash screen monopolises your display, by default. Photoshop may take 30 seconds to actually start up, and, in the mean time, you have what is essentially an ad covering up what youʼre currently working on.
Case in point, here it is as I write this post:
I had to stare at that for 28 seconds before Photoshop started up.
Unless you enjoy a moment of meditation while watching the status messages flip by, or youʼre just nostalgic about 1980s TV series Flamingo Road, you might want to get rid of the splash screen in Windows 10 so that you can do something productive while Photoshop starts in the background.
Hereʼs how.
If Photoshop is not pinned to your taskbar or on your Desktop, and you have to find it in the Start menu, open Start, then type photo to bring the Photoshop icon up:
Click on the down arrow below Open:
This brings up more contextual menu items. Click on Open file location
This will bring up the location of your Start menu shortcuts, with that of Photoshop highlighted:
Right-click on Adobe Photoshop 2021 to get the context menu, and click Properties at the bottom.
This will bring up the Adobe Photoshop 2021 Properties dialogue:
Youʼll see that the text in the Target: field is already highlighted. Youʼre going to need to add a switch (a few characters of text) to the end, so just press the End key on your keyboard, and then the space bar. Now, type:
-NoSplash
Your dialogue should now look like the below. Click on OK
Thatʼs it! Next time you click on that icon to start Photoshop, you should not have a splash screen cover up what youʼre busy with while the application loads.
