In other words, the countless times when we decided with much fanfare to start serving Hashem\u00a0in Torah or\u00a0<i>tefilla<\/i>\u00a0(prayer), and\u00a0then\u00a0very quickly\u00a0lost our resolve\u00a0and were left broken and in despair.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">We explained that serving Hashem consists of\u00a0ups and downs. During an\u00a0\u201cup\u201d\u00a0time, Hashem is helping\u00a0us,\u00a0we receive spiritual light,\u00a0we\u00a0are enthusiastic,\u00a0and\u00a0we\u00a0declare a new beginning. But when\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0experiencing\u00a0a\u00a0\u201cdown\u201d\u00a0time,\u00a0we\u00a0tend to give up and stop trying.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">The cure for this is\u00a0to\u00a0<b>hold on\u00a0to our\u00a0<\/b><b><i>emuna\u00a0<\/i><\/b><b>(faith)\u00a0with all our strength<\/b>\u00a0during the down\u00a0times.\u00a0There can be changes in one\u2019s\u00a0level of enthusiasm, but\u00a0<b>emuna\u00a0never changes<\/b>. And so, the main battle\u00a0during the down\u00a0times is our battle over\u00a0emuna\u00a0\u2013 to hold on to it staunchly. That is the only thing that can prevent\u00a0the\u00a0downward\u00a0movement\u00a0from turning\u00a0into an outright fall. Because\u00a0emuna\u00a0never changes!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">And\u00a0the main point of\u00a0<i>emuna<\/i>\u00a0is\u00a0having\u00a0the faith\u00a0and the knowledge that Hashem loves me, and that it is forbidden to forget it, and it is forbidden even\u00a0to\u00a0allow\u00a0ourselves\u00a0to be distracted\u00a0from it no matter\u00a0what might happen.\u00a0This\u00a0<i>emuna\u00a0<\/i>that Hashem loves me\u00a0is\u00a0critical\u00a0even more so\u00a0during times of darkness and difficulties.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">That is the secret of\u00a0the Redemption from Egypt. We stopped being slaves\u00a0to\u00a0the descendants of Cham, who are all considered slaves,\u00a0and we moved\u00a0on to becoming\u00a0children [of Hashem], eternally free.\u00a0Hashem\u00a0announced\u00a0to us that we are His children: \u201cSend out\u00a0<b>my son&#8230;\u201d<\/b><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><sup><b>1<\/b><\/sup><\/span>\u00a0\u201c&#8230;so that he may serve\u00a0Me.\u201d<span style=\"color: #000080;\"><sup><b>2<\/b><\/sup><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000080;\">Connection\u00a0to the\u00a0Days\u00a0of\u00a0Shovevim\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">The Redemption from Egypt\u00a0is\u00a0the model and symbol of all the redemptions of\u00a0every\u00a0Jew from the straits\u00a0of his soul\u00a0\u2013\u00a0his\u00a0base desires and bad\u00a0<i>middot<\/i>\u00a0(character\u00a0traits). The greatest subjugation of the\u00a0soul is\u00a0<i>pgam\u00a0habrit\u00a0<\/i>(sexual\u00a0blemish), as\u00a0<i>Rabbeinu<\/i>\u00a0says, anyone who\u00a0causes a\u00a0blemish\u00a0in the\u00a0<i>shmirat\u00a0habrit<\/i>\u00a0(sexual purity) takes on\u00a0the\u00a0aspect of slavery.<span style=\"color: #000080;\"><sup><b>3<\/b><\/sup><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Therefore, the person who paved the way to the Redemption from Egypt was\u00a0<b><i>Yosef HaTzaddik, shomer habrit<\/i><\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b>(maintains sexual purity). The\u00a0<i>klipa<\/i>\u00a0(forces of spiritual impurity)\u00a0overtook\u00a0Yosef\u00a0and wanted to take\u00a0the aspect of \u2018son\u2019 away\u00a0from\u00a0him\u00a0\u2014\u00a0in other words,\u00a0the aspect of\u00a0<i>emuna<\/i>\u00a0that Hashem is a\u00a0good Father.\u00a0The\u00a0<i>klipa <\/i>would\u00a0leave\u00a0Yosef\u00a0with the aspect of \u2018slave\u2019,\u00a0as in the\u00a0<i>pasuk<\/i> \u201cYosef was sold as a\u00a0slave\u201d<span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><sup>4<\/sup><\/strong><\/span>,\u00a0and\u00a0in\u00a0that way\u00a0make\u00a0him fail the\u00a0<i>nisayon<\/i>\u00a0(test)\u00a0of\u00a0<i>pgam\u00a0habrit<\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">But Yosef\u00a0withstood the temptation, thanks\u00a0to his\u00a0remaining a\u00a0\u2018son\u2019,\u00a0as we will see very soon.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">The book\u00a0<i>Lashon Chassidim<\/i>\u00a0explains this.\u00a0<i>Chazal<\/i>\u00a0tell\u00a0us: How\u00a0did Yosef have the merit to withstand the temptation? He saw \u201chis father\u2019s image.\u201d And the\u00a0<i>Lashon Chassidim<\/i>\u00a0explains\u00a0this\u00a0in the following way, which is\u00a0very\u00a0illuminating and strengthening and speaks\u00a0for\u00a0itself:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">\u201cWhat many have mentioned in the matter of \u2018his father\u2019s image\u2019\u00a0that\u00a0appeared\u00a0to him,\u00a0it must be said that it was the matter of\u00a0<b>his father <\/b>in particular; the name Yaakov is not mentioned, because the issue was that\u00a0<b>\u00a0he was\u00a0strengthening himself regarding his Father in Heaven that He loves him and that is how he had the strength to withstand the temptation!\u201d<\/b><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><sup><b>5<\/b><\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000080;\">Withstand Every Temptation Easily\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">In a moment we will see\u00a0the continuation\u00a0of\u00a0the above text, which\u00a0is\u00a0no less amazing. But before that,\u00a0we will pause\u00a0to\u00a0contemplate\u00a0this revolutionary idea:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Yosef is a young and handsome man; he has been\u00a0betrayed by his brothers in the\u00a0worst\u00a0way, due to their hatred of him and for the sake of money. He has been\u00a0torn\u00a0away from his father\u2019s house and from the entire holy culture that had enveloped him until\u00a0then.\u00a0He\u00a0has gone\u00a0from being a pampered\u00a0favorite\u00a0son\u00a0to being a slave \u2013 unimportant, of low status, whose life\u00a0is considered worthless; he has no future to look forward to, no future of freedom. And all this in a place\u00a0that is swamped with base desires. And it was there that a woman latches on to him and every day does everything \u2013 everything! \u2013 to\u00a0make him fail!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Even if\u00a0we\u00a0would want to describe to ourselves the hardest\u00a0<i>nisayon<\/i>, we would\u00a0not\u00a0be\u00a0able to\u00a0come up with\u00a0a more impossible\u00a0test\u00a0than this!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">What does a person do in this situation? What could you say to him? \u201cBe strong\u201d?! \u2014 you can be strong for a day or two, a week, a month. But every person has days of weakness, days of <i>katnut\u00a0mochin<\/i>\u00a0(lesser abilities) and especially in such a situation as he was in.\u00a0And the\u00a0<i>yetzer hara<\/i>\u00a0is crouching there, waiting to\u00a0seize\u00a0the person during these moments especially.\u00a0So\u00a0what is the solution? What should one do?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">The\u00a0<i>Lashon Chassidim<\/i>\u00a0brings up a most valuable\u00a0and indescribable\u00a0principle: \u201c<b>Strengthen yourself with\u00a0emuna that\u00a0your Father in Heaven loves you \u2013 and that way you will be able to stand up to any\u00a0<\/b><b><i>nisayon<\/i><\/b><b>!<\/b><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><sup><b>5<\/b>\u00a0<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000080;\">What\u00a0Gives Yosef\u00a0his\u00a0Vitality?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">What the\u00a0<i>Lashon Chassidim<\/i>\u00a0says\u00a0next is even more strengthening:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">\u201cI now come to\u00a0explain the words of Yosef in\u00a0<i>Parashat<\/i>\u00a0Vayigash\u00a0\u2013 where Yosef says, \u201cI am Yosef, is my father still alive?\u201d\u00a0He said to them,\u00a0if\u00a0you ask me how I merited the level of Yosef, it is because<b>\u00a0I was always\u00a0examining\u00a0myself and asking myself about \u2018<\/b><b><i>avi\u2019\u00a0<\/i><\/b><b>(my father), in other words, a father\u2019s love for his son.\u00a0And\u00a0I\u00a0always\u00a0made sure\u00a0to see that it is alive and kicking within me, and that\u00a0is how I reached the level of\u00a0\u2019Yosef\u2019 and\u00a0that is how I\u00a0am still living.\u201d<\/b><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><sup><b> 5<\/b><\/sup><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559685&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">There is nothing to add to such clear words \u2013 only to\u00a0exert ourselves with all our power to simply\u00a0live this knowledge, to\u00a0always\u00a0see that this point is still living within us!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">And now we understand why the entire Redemption from Egypt depends upon Yosef, because the rule is that only a soul\u00a0that was not\u00a0&#8216;broken\u2019\u00a0can be\u00a0\u2018repaired\u2019 (<i>tikkun<\/i>).\u00a0<i>Bnei Yisrael<\/i>\u00a0had descended to\u00a0the level of being\u00a0\u2018slaves\u2019,\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0entire\u00a0redemption\u00a0from Egypt\u00a0was\u00a0intended to bring them back to\u00a0the level of being\u00a0\u2018sons\u2019. Who is the only one who can do this? Only\u00a0he who\u00a0held on to\u00a0<i>emuna<\/i>\u00a0in every situation and never descended to the level of a slave.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">And that is\u00a0Yosef\u00a0<i>HaTzaddik<\/i>,\u00a0who reached a place that was the ultimate slavery:\u00a0he was a\u00a0lifelong slave in a house of slaves and in a land of slaves \u2013 and he never\u00a0became\u00a0distracted from\u00a0the fact that he\u00a0was a\u00a0son\u00a0and\u00a0that\u00a0Hashem is his loving father.\u00a0Only he could get\u00a0<i>Bnei Yisrael\u00a0<\/i>to move from\u00a0being\u00a0\u00a0\u2018slaves\u2019\u00a0to being\u00a0\u2018sons\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000080;\">Personal\u00a0and\u00a0General\u00a0Geula\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">The future\u00a0<i>Geula<\/i>\u00a0and the coming of the\u00a0<i>Mashiach<\/i>\u00a0for\u00a0whom we await\u00a0both\u00a0depend on our living\u00a0wholly with\u00a0the idea that we\u00a0are\u00a0children\u00a0and Hashem is our loving\u00a0Father.\u00a0As is\u00a0hinted\u00a0in the\u00a0<i>pasuk<\/i>\u00a0in Yeshayahu:\u00a0\u201c&#8230;the Wondrous Adviser,\u00a0Mighty G-d, Eternal Father\u00a0called his name,\u00a0\u2018the\u00a0Prince of Peace\u2019.\u201d<span style=\"color: #000080;\"><sup><b>6<\/b><\/sup><\/span>\u00a0Who calls the\u00a0<i>Mashiach<\/i>\u00a0\u201cPrince of Peace\u201d? Hashem\u00a0<i>yitbarach<\/i>,\u00a0who is\u00a0the Wondrous Advisor,\u00a0Mighty G-d, Eternal Father. Why is Hashem\u00a0presented\u00a0specifically here\u00a0with\u00a0such special names?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Because the wondrous advice upon which depends the complete <i>Geula<\/i>\u00a0and all our power to overcome the\u00a0<i>yetzer hara<\/i> and all our\u00a0enemies with the aspect of\u00a0\u201cWondrous Advisor, Mighty G-d\u201d\u00a0is the\u00a0\u201cEternal Father\u201d, that we should know that Hashem is our\u00a0Father\u00a0forever and ever, and in every situation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">And therefore, this advice to\u00a0hold on with all our power to the knowledge that Hashem is a\u00a0Father, and He loves me, and to live that truth at every moment \u2013 that is the best advice for the days of the\u00a0<i>Shovevim<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0for\u00a0<i>tikkun\u00a0habrit<\/i><i>\u00a0<\/i>(rectification of\u00a0sexual\u00a0blemish). Only from there is it possible to\u00a0muster all our\u00a0abilities to overcome the\u00a0<i>yetzer hara<\/i>\u00a0and to be redeemed from all base desires and bad\u00a0<i>middot<\/i>\u00a0for good.\u00a0May we overcome the\u00a0<i>yetzer hara<\/i>\u00a0during the times when we ascend and descend,\u00a0so that we\u00a0not\u00a0continually start and fail!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000080;\">Teshuva\u00a0of\u00a0Sons\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">This also explains <i>parsha Va&#8217;eira<\/i>, where Pharaoh is always\u00a0willing to give in and then hardens his heart. This\u00a0is exactly what happens to us when we are\u00a0in the process\u00a0of\u00a0<i>teshuva<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>tikkun<\/i>: We start and we fail. What is the rectification for that?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Rabbi Nachman says in\u00a0<i>Likutei\u00a0Moharan<\/i>\u00a0that there are two types of repentance.<span style=\"color: #000080;\"><sup><b>6<\/b><\/sup><\/span> There is the \u201ceveryday repentance\u201d, in which a person is constantly rising and falling \u2013 sometimes the food is kosher and sometimes not, sometimes his eyes look at pure sights and sometimes impure. But there is a \u201cShabbat <i>teshuva<\/i>\u201d,\u00a0in which the person is completely redeemed from all the bad in him and the\u00a0bad is rejected and completely uprooted! That is the\u00a0<i>teshuva<\/i>\u00a0with the aspect of Shabbat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">What\u2019s the difference between the weekdays and Shabbat?
