In the Dr.\u00a0<\/span>Emuna\u00a0series, I have covered a lot of foundational topics on emotional and physical health. Now, I want to dig deeper, with a mini-series on healing\u00a0even severe emotional ills like\u00a0<\/span>trauma and PTSD with\u00a0<\/span>emuna.\u00a0Although I am using this as the example, everything here will also help anyone suffering from anxiety, depression, or other emotional ills just as much.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I want to make sure that you respect yourself in this work<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Take the time to think and pray about what you learn.\u00a0<\/span>If you feel that you are getting triggered \u2013 STOP. Step back, relax, use your grounding tools, and come back to\u00a0<\/span>the topic later<\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Nothing gets healed when you are overwhelmed or shut down \u2013 nor can you connect to Hashem and Hashem\u2019s love in such a state. As I have repeated over and over \u2013\u00a0<\/span>Rebbe<\/span>\u00a0Nachman<\/span>\u00a0teaches that the biggest medicine is happiness. Conversely, all sickness comes from sadness and bitterness. Therefore, you need to maintain your emotional keel and keep connecting to\u00a0<\/span>Hashem,\u00a0<\/span>emuna<\/span>\u00a0and happiness.\u00a0<\/span>If you can\u2019t keep it up \u2013 take a break. Stop, and go back to simply thanking Hashem for the obvious good in your life and come back to the happiness.\u00a0<\/span>Get back to really feeling how much Hashem took care of you then, and now. Then, come back to the difficult topic tomorrow.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As I covered in\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Every Healing Has Its Time<\/span><\/span><\/a>, you\u2019ll need patience for this work. There certainly might be people who will experience a sudden healing, especially for less severe trauma. However,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>e<\/span><\/span>xpect that just as it may have been years of trauma to get you into your current state, it will also take some time to get you out of it.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Hashem knows the pace at which you can heal<\/span><\/span>, and it will<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>be only good for you.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This applies also to medicines that you may be taking. I certainly pray and expect that you should be able to slowly take yourself off them, but no drastic steps should be taken at any point. Don\u2019t push ahead and expect results.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Rather, as you see\u00a0<\/span><\/span>results<\/span><\/span>, and you experience in real time that you don\u2019t need the medicine as much, only then step down.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Pray about any change you want to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>make and<\/span><\/span>\u00a0be open that the answer might be t<\/span><\/span>o wait a bit longer.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Oftentimes, real healing is much more than just taking away symptoms \u2013 it is about changing the broken worldviews you walk around with. These things simply take time. Be patient with the process \u2013 YOUR process \u2013 and strengthen your\u00a0<\/span>emuna<\/span>\u00a0that Hashem is helping you step by step in the best way possible. Many times, a major improvement in symptoms only happens after a big \u201caha\u201d moment where you realize that you need to change some broken belief about yourself or the world. As you adjust, the emotional changes naturally bring about the improvement in your overall condition.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The key is slowly, but surely<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and most importantly \u2013 WITH PRAYER. You cannot hope to heal without Hashem, and as Rabbi\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Arush<\/span><\/span>\u00a0quips: \u201cWith prayer, with Hashem. Without prayer, without Hashem.\u201d First you need to have a basis in personal prayer and speaking with\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Hashem and<\/span><\/span>\u00a0have a true \u201cworking relationship\u201d with God before you can tackle something gigantic like this.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>If you want to dive right in and take your first steps in personal prayer \u2013 that\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/span>OK but<\/span><\/span>\u00a0expect to put in more time initially to read up and make sure that you<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Don\u2019t Skip Steps<\/span><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>As Rabbi\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Arush<\/span><\/span>\u00a0explains in\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Rabbi\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Arush<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Teaches Us a Shortcut<\/span><\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>there are no real short cuts in life. But there are short paths \u2013 the fastest way to truly fix a problem. Remember – y<\/span><\/span>ou can read a million articles and books but until you start implementing these ideas in your own personal prayer, nothing significant is going to change.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0When you commit to healing, you<\/span><\/span>\u00a0are<\/span><\/span>\u00a0commit<\/span><\/span>ting<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to daily prayer on this topic. Any amount will help, but Rabbi\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Arush<\/span><\/span>\u00a0lays down 30 minutes daily as the absolute minimum required.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>He<\/span><\/span>\u00a0promises that\u00a0<\/span><\/span>with half an hour a day,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>you can fix any problem or change any bad character trait, if you will just keep going and not give up!\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The more time you invest, the faster you will see real change.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You will also need\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a strong foundation of all the teachings of Rabbi\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Arush<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that you are taking with you into your work<\/span><\/span>. The program I am going to outline is based on the totality of Rabbi\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Arush\u2019s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>teachings and<\/span><\/span>\u00a0applies them to this\u00a0<\/span>particular\u00a0<\/span><\/span>subject<\/span><\/span>. The doctors and psychologists out there will tell you that it is not possible to heal from trauma<\/span><\/span>; t<\/span><\/span>he best you can do is learn to manage the fallout. That might be true according to nature,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>but with\u00a0<\/span><\/span>emuna<\/span><\/span>\u00a0there is no nature<\/span><\/span>. God created you, He created the trauma, and He is also perfectly capable of healing it.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Connect to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Hashem and<\/span><\/span>\u00a0connect yourself to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the possibility of real healing!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You might be reading this up until now and think to yourself: \u201c<\/span><\/span>She calls herself\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/span>Dr.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Emuna<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u2019<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>but she has got no letters after her name<\/span><\/span>. What does she know about healing trauma? Rabbi\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Nachman<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is called \u201cthe doctor of the soul\u201d for good reason.
