There is a lot of interest today in a part of the Torah which is becoming more and more revealed in our time, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Penimiut<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>HaTorah<\/span><\/span>, the inner light of the Torah.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>What does the inner light of the Torah mean?<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>What does it mean to <\/span><\/span><\/span>learn the inner light<\/span><\/span>?<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Is this part of the Torah for everyone?<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Rebbe Nachman explains in <\/span><\/span><\/span>L<\/span><\/span>esson 33 in part one of <\/span><\/span><\/span>Likutei<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Moharan<\/span><\/span> <\/span>that<\/span><\/span> <\/span>the inner light of the Torah is Hashem\u2019<\/span><\/span>s presence.<\/span><\/span> <\/span>Hashem put H<\/span><\/span>is light inside the Torah.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>It is the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Godliness which i<\/span><\/span>s found inside the Torah and it<\/span><\/span>s <\/span><\/span><\/span>middot<\/span><\/span>, the character traits taught by Torah and the specific details of each mitzvah.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>In the inner light of the Torah<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> <\/span>Hashem\u2019s presence <\/span><\/span><\/span>can be<\/span><\/span> <\/span>felt and <\/span><\/span><\/span>discovered<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Rebbe Nachman<\/span><\/span> <\/span>also<\/span><\/span> <\/span>teaches<\/span><\/span> <\/span>in <\/span><\/span><\/span>Likutei<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Moharan<\/span><\/span>, in the 7<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span> <\/span>teac<\/span><\/span>hing part two, <\/span><\/span><\/span>that <\/span><\/span><\/span>a true <\/span><\/span><\/span>t<\/span><\/span>z<\/span><\/span>addik<\/span><\/span>, a true leader like Moshe  <\/span><\/span><\/span>Rab<\/span><\/span>b<\/span><\/span>einu<\/span><\/span>  <\/span>has <\/span><\/span><\/span>mercy on the Jewish people.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>H<\/span><\/span>e is always trying to help them correct their ways and return to Hashem.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The heaviest burden that a person can carry is the burden of sin.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>The Jewish soul, due to its special holiness, cannot bear this burden.<\/span><\/span> <\/span>The <\/span><\/span><\/span>tz<\/span><\/span>addik<\/span><\/span> <\/span>helps the Jewish people have true knowledge and awe of Heaven, and this helps them leave behind their sins.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>The only reason a person falls int<\/span><\/span>o sin is due to foolishness. At that moment, the person <\/span><\/span><\/span>lack<\/span><\/span>s the<\/span><\/span> <\/span>knowledge that Hashem is the King and<\/span><\/span> <\/span>He<\/span><\/span> <\/span>rules over everything.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>They do not feel<\/span><\/span> <\/span>and<\/span><\/span> <\/span>experience His presence in that moment of sin.<\/span><\/span> <\/span>The <\/span><\/span><\/span>tz<\/span><\/span>addik<\/span><\/span> <\/span>reveals to the Jewish people the true knowledge of Gd.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>He is also able to reach each person, on whatever low level they might find themselves on, and show them that no matter what, Hashem is still with them and close to them.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>He strengthens them <\/span><\/span><\/span>not to<\/span><\/span> <\/span>despair, in any situation.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Yaakov Klein<\/span><\/span> <\/span>explains<\/span><\/span> <\/span>this concept<\/span><\/span> <\/span>in his incredible new book, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Th<\/span><\/span>e Story of O<\/span><\/span>ur Lives<\/span><\/span>, an elucidation of Rebbe <\/span><\/span><\/span>Nachman\u2019<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span> <\/span>famous tale<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>– <\/span><\/span><\/span>T<\/span><\/span>he Lost Princess<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>T<\/span><\/span>he t<\/span><\/span>z<\/span><\/span>addikim make it possible for every Jew to connect to the awesome, inner light of the Torah.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>That is their task and their mission.<\/span><\/span> <\/span>The <\/span><\/span><\/span>tz<\/span><\/span>addik\u2019s<\/span><\/span> <\/span>entire mission is to help Jews escape the cycles of lowliness <\/span><\/span><\/span>of<\/span><\/span> <\/span>sin mentioned <\/span><\/span><\/span>above<\/span><\/span>, by granting them access to the <\/span><\/span><\/span>inner<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>wisdom<\/span><\/span> <\/span>of the Torah<\/span><\/span> <\/span>(The Story of Our Lives, pages 239-240)<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

During this month of Iyar, we have one of the most special days on the Jewish calendar, Lag <\/span><\/span><\/span>B\u2019Omer<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/span>the<\/span><\/span> <\/span>celebration of the yahrzeit of Rebbe Shimon Bar Yochai.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>It is such an incredible experience to be there on Lag <\/span><\/span><\/span>B<\/span><\/span>\u2019<\/span><\/span>Omer<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Rebbe Shimon was one of the great sages of the period of the Mishna, and the author of the Holy Zohar.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Why do we celebrate the passing of this great <\/span><\/span><\/span>Tz<\/span><\/span>addik?<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Why does his celebration draw so many <\/span><\/span><\/span>hundreds of <\/span><\/span><\/span>thousands of Jews, of every different type<\/span><\/span> <\/span>you could imagine<\/span><\/span>, to the small town of <\/span><\/span><\/span>Meron<\/span><\/span> <\/span>in Northern Israel<\/span><\/span>?<\/span><\/span> <\/span>There are certain t<\/span><\/span>z<\/span><\/span>addikim who are so great that any Jew can c<\/span><\/span>onnect to them, because these tz<\/span><\/span>addikim are connected to the souls of all of the Jewish people.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>They are like the root of the tree, while we are like the branches.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>They see every single person\u2019s soul, and they see what their special purpose is in the world.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

One of these exalted tz<\/span><\/span>addikim was Rebbe Shimon bar Yochai.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>He reveled the inner, hidden light of the Torah that <\/span><\/span><\/span>was<\/span><\/span> <\/span>hidden<\/span><\/span> <\/span>away<\/span><\/span> <\/span>since it was given to Moshe at Mt. Sinai.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>We are celebrating the awesome light of the Holy Zohar that he revealed in the world.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>His book, the Zohar, is a powerful revelation of true knowledge and true faith in Hashem.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Rebbe Shimon said that through his work, the Zohar, the Jewish people <\/span><\/span><\/span>would<\/span><\/span> <\/span>leave the exile.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>The li<\/span><\/span>ght of his book, the Zohar, <\/span><\/span><\/span>heal<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span> <\/span>the Jewish souls from the suffering of exile and help<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span> <\/span>them hold on str<\/span><\/span>ong until the final redemption.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

At the beginning of Rebbe <\/span><\/span><\/span>Nachman\u2019s<\/span><\/span> <\/span>magnum opus, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Likutei<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Moharan<\/span><\/span>, before the first teaching, after the introduction, there is short teaching about<\/span><\/span> <\/span>the greatness of<\/span><\/span> <\/span>Rebbe Shimon Bar Yochai.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>The teaching explains that through the light of Rebbe Shimon the Torah will not be forgotten from the Jewish people<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>T<\/span><\/span>hrough the light of the Zohar the Jewish people will leave the exile<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Why did Rebbe Nachman choose to begin his book with this teaching?<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>In the <\/span><\/span><\/span>book <\/span><\/span><\/span>T<\/span><\/span>he Life of Rebbe Nachman<\/span><\/span> <\/span>(teaching 189)<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>the connection between these two great <\/span><\/span><\/span>tz<\/span><\/span>addikim is explained further.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Rebbe Nachman <\/span><\/span><\/span>was <\/span><\/span><\/span>on his way from <\/span><\/span><\/span>Bresl<\/span><\/span>e<\/span><\/span>v<\/span><\/span> <\/span>to <\/span><\/span><\/span>Uman<\/span><\/span> <\/span>at the end of his life<\/span><\/span>. A<\/span><\/span>fter revealing this teaching about Rebbe Shimon bar Yochai, <\/span><\/span><\/span>he <\/span><\/span><\/span>stated \u201cand now there is \u2018the source of wisdom\u2026 a flowing <\/span><\/span><\/span>stream<\/span><\/span>\u2019<\/span><\/span>\u201d(<\/span><\/span>Proverbs, Chapter 18, Verse 4)<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Rebbe Nachman revealed<\/span><\/span> <\/span>that he came into the world to <\/span><\/span><\/span>continue<\/span><\/span> <\/span>the light of Rebbe Shimon<\/span><\/span> <\/span>in a new way<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>He came to shine the light of the Zohar for our generation and show <\/span><\/span><\/span>every<\/span><\/span> <\/span>Jew <\/span><\/span><\/span>how much<\/span><\/span> <\/span>they are precious and holy.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>He wants to help <\/span><\/span><\/span>every one<\/span><\/span> <\/span>of us rectify what we need to rectify<\/span><\/span> <\/span>in our lifetime<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>He revealed the practical advice that comes out of the te<\/span><\/span>achings of the Zohar and other K<\/span><\/span>abbalistic works.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Rebbe Nachman, just like his great-grandfather the holy Baal Shem Tov, is revealing the inner light of the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Torah to ever<\/span><\/span>y single person on their level.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>This<\/span><\/span> <\/span>is the greatness of the true tz<\/span><\/span>addikim.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>There is no person, not matter what they might have done, whom they cannot help return to Hashem.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Rebbe Nachman famously said, \u201c<\/span><\/span>my<\/span><\/span> <\/span>fire will burn until the coming of <\/span><\/span><\/span>Mashiach<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span>His fire warms our souls in the darkness<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>of the exile <\/span><\/span><\/span>that<\/span><\/span> <\/span>we <\/span><\/span><\/span>still find ourselves in.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>H<\/span><\/span>is fire<\/span><\/span> <\/span>also<\/span><\/span> <\/span>illuminates our eyes<\/span><\/span> <\/span>to understand how to serve Hashem<\/span><\/span> <\/span>even<\/span><\/span> <\/span>in these challenging times.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Through <\/span><\/span><\/span>the<\/span><\/span> <\/span>powerful <\/span><\/span><\/span>inner light that these<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>great<\/span><\/span> <\/span>t<\/span><\/span>z<\/span><\/span>addikim make accessible to us, we are<\/span><\/span> <\/span>able to live with more emuna<\/span><\/span> <\/span>(faith)<\/span><\/span> <\/span>and more mindfulness.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>They reveal to every person on their level a<\/span><\/span> <\/span>deeper knowledge<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> <\/span>that Hashem l<\/span><\/span>oves us<\/span><\/span> <\/span>deeply<\/span><\/span> <\/span>and He is right with us!<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
