Most commonly, though, it consists of inventory that has experienced lower demand for an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/core.ac.uk\/download\/pdf\/186747444.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">extended period<\/a>\u00a0and thus is not selling, and likely will not sell, independently. In this way, the product life cycle is getting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/content\/pdf\/10.1007\/1-4020-4350-3_2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">increasingly shorter<\/a>.<\/p><p>Deadstock typically comprises new old stock, meaning that it is in prime, new condition but never sold, causing it to be \u201cdead.\u201d\u00a0 So, it isn\u2019t faulty, and <strong>there isn\u2019t necessarily anything\u00a0<em>wrong<\/em>\u00a0with it, but it just isn\u2019t selling<\/strong>.<\/p><p>So, this dead stock will remain in a warehouse, storage room or whatever facility it is kept in, taking up valuable space that could be occupied by other, more popular, revenue-generating products.<\/p><p>Typically, an influx in deadstock should trigger a motivation to implement new inventory management strategies to help clear this excess stock and prevent it from becoming a recurring issue.<\/p><p>A primary example of deadstock would be New Year\u2019s merchandise. Namely, unless the world were to enter a weird Ground Hog Day type time-loop, you could only sell products for New Year\u2019s Eve celebrations for any given year one time.<\/p><p>In this case, once January 2nd comes around, all of those items become dead stock instantaneously.<\/p><p>New Year\u2019s is an extreme example because there are no actual alterations to make it applicable for the broad spectrum of internal or external factors<\/strong>, such as the seasonal example we provided above.<\/p><p>Additionally, it can sometimes come down to just plain bad luck or higher expectations that, unfortunately, yielded lower-than-expected results.<\/p><p>That said, some consistent themes do arise that could serve as some of the most commonly seen culprits for dead necessarily faulty. However, sometimes they are, which is when things become complicated.<\/p><p><strong>Selling at a lower standard or retailing genuinely defective<\/strong> <strong>items<\/strong> will deter customers from purchasing your products.\u00a0<\/p><p>This is particularly true if these items are of lower quality while also not meeting the necessary industry standards, such as packaging requirements, product specifications, and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/qualityinspection.org\/what-is-the-aql\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">accepted quality limits<\/a>\u00a0(AQL).<\/p><p>It won\u2019t come as much of a surprise that tainted products will likely end up as dead stock on your storage shelves or in your warehouse.\u00a0<\/p><p>After all, would you want to be an item or product that\u2019s defective? Probably not. of selling and restocking.<\/p><p>For ecommerce retailers, inventory that doesn\u2019t sell will sit in a warehouse or storeroom, thereby <strong>taking up space that more sellable, profit-making items could otherwise occupy<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p><p>With this in mind, we\u2019ll briefly describe examples of how dead stock could be detrimental to your business.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9fec0ea elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9fec0ea\" potential opportunities to generate revenue, but you\u2019re also <strong>decreasing your chance of breaking even<\/strong> by having to pay to store items that will likely not sell various warehouse or storage facilities, mainly if you use third-party retailers to store your product, the maintenance and management costs for this <strong>excess inventory will continue to increase<\/strong> to the point where it costs more to store these items than they\u2019re actually worth.<\/p><p>In turn, you may have no other option than to hire more workers, therefore paying more
