Someone's a Radio Jill fan...

OK, so it looks like IRIS was broadcasting Jill's return every half-hour or so... anyway I think I've got the issue fixed now. Sorry for the mess, and please let me know by AIM (Arclooper) or LJ PM (eco_mono) if you see this happening again.

Problems fixed!

Hi all, just letting you know that I've found out why IRIS was obsessing over that Brainiac 5 post. Turns out it wasn't really a crush - it was reading that page over and over trying to find the post, and not finding it because LJ added some extra HTML right next to it. Anyway, I think I've solved it now, so the bot is back online for NS 46. :)

So you may have noticed that IRIS has not updated its links for almost all of this nightshift. This is because she has apparently developed a crush on Brainiac 5. I'm not even kidding - the bot starts to read through currently active threads to check for new posts, but then gets to this one and just reads it over and over until I turn it off.

So, yeah. Not sure how long this'll take to fix, but until then, stalk commands will probably not work.

Behavior change

After some more in-the-field testing it seems IMing people when someone on the avoid list is in chat is counterproductive, because everyone just starts asking in chat why the bot IMed them. So from now on, the avoid list will supress notifs entirely.

Bug Report

Just a quick notification for you all: occasionally IRIS will bug out and stop reading the comm, and I have to reset her to make her get back to work. This means that from time to time her "latest post" data will stop updating for several hours, until I notice it's crashed and do the reset. I'm trying to figure out what's causing it, but it may take a while.

Note that this is also why IRIS didn't properly announce last night's robot karaoke.

New features implemented

New commands:

Where is [journal name] - will return the most recent comment or post made by that journal to the main IC community, along with the location, day, and whether it was dayshift or nightshift.

Extended commands:

Who is [AIM screenname] now reports which characters the person plays as well.

How to Use It

IRIS currently accepts the following commands:

Who is [aim screenname]? - Responds with the "Online Name" listed in the Lounge contact list as having that screenname, as well as that person's current list of characters (with links to profile pages).

What shift is it?/Current shift? - Responds with the current shift. Dayshift is referred to as "first" through "fifth", nightshift is referred to monolithically.

Where is [journal name]? - Responds with the most recent comment or post by that journal in the main IC community. Includes a link, as well as the location where the character was found and the IC date.

Avoid me - designed for use by those who want to be able to ignore the bot completely. If you issue this command, the bot will notice when you are in chat and stay quiet, instead sending announcements by IM to those it is not avoiding. In short: if you issue the command "avoid me" you can safely pretend the bot doesn't exist thereafter.

Allow me - undoes the "avoid me" command, putting you back in the list of people who are OK with hearing announcements in public chat.

IRIS currently announces the following events:

Shift changes and nightshift intercom/radio posts - announced using the same format as the "current shift" command.

New players - announced by username when they join the main community or bulletin community (whichever comes first).

Upcoming features in order of priority:

Announcing moderator posts to the Lounge in a manner similar to the shift change announcements.

A "subscribe me" command to send announcements by IM when the user is not in chat.
