rasinah because she's a sadist, just like me. ^_^
Yesung laid on the operation table, his eyes wandered at the activities around him numbly as the nurse placed the electrodes on his chest to monitor his heart rate during the surgery.
Never in his life had he thought that he would be lying on the operation table, waiting to get himself cut open. He wasn't afraid, nor did he regret the decision he made.
A little anxious he might be, but he is definitely not scared to go through it. Not even a tiny bit.
The person that had contributed to making him feel anxious is Kangin, all he wanted was his friend to be okay, back to his old healthy self. He prayed silently for Kangin to go through the surgery without a hitch and that everything will work out as planned. Youngwoon! Fighting!
And of course, the only other thing that had been bothering him at that moment is how naked he felt, clad only with a thin blue surgical cloth covering his body. It made him feel uncomfortable as hell, especially with the many pair of eyes working around him.
Other than that, he's all good and ready to go.
A woman clad in a complete surgical attire leaned towards him. "Alright Yesung-sshi, if you would count backwards from 100 for me please?" she coaxed him gently as she slipped a mask that looked very much like an oxygen mask over his face. "Just breathe normally." Her eyes smiling kindly at him.
Yesung nodded groggily as he starts counting. "100, 99, 98, 97, 96, 95, 94.. 93... 9...2... 9-" and he's out.
The anesthesiologist nodded to the other surgeons as a sign that the anesthetic had made its way into the patient's system, and Yesung is now unconscious. Oblivious to what is going on around him.
"Okay, lets get him intubated so we can start with the incision" The lead surgeon ordered.

The atmosphere in Kangin's operating room was taut with concentration. Compared to Yesung's operating room, the surgeons were working in a faster pace and the air in the room was much more tensed. If anything goes wrong, the result might be fatal.
As soon as the the kidney was safely extracted from Yesung, the medical staffs immediately transferred the organ over to Kangin's operation room to be implanted into it's recipient without wasting any time. The staffs worked feverishly against the ticking clock, trying to avoid any complications as they go.
They quickly placed the kidney into Kangin's lower abdomen. One surgeon sews as the other holds the kidney in place.
"Perfect!" The lead surgeon commented as soon as he watched Yesung's healthy kidney which had turned gray upon extraction turns pink- regaining blood from Kangin's body. "It's even making urine already." he added, satisfied with the outcome of the transplant.
"Alright people! We're done here! Lets get him all stitched up!" The lead surgeon called.
Just as soon as the surgeons were about to get ready to stitch up their patient, the machines surrounding him suddenly blared out wildly, sending the medical staff to spur into action trying to find the cause of their patient's distressed condition.
The once calm operating room is now in total chaos.
"Shit! he won't stop bleeding! His blood pressure's bottoming!" The doctor worked feverishly trying to get things in control. "I can't see a damn thing, he's bleeding too much! We need to control the damn bleed before he bleeds to death!" The lead surgeon barked out as he tried his best to suture the cause of the bleed.
"He's having arrhythmia! He's going to arrest!" One of the medical assistant already had the paddles ready in case they need to shock Yesung's heart back to life.
"We're losing him!" another voice notified from across the room.
The lead surgeon didn't respond, instead he kept working on Yesung until he finally succeeded in suturing the cause of the bleed. "How's he doing now?" He finally speaks, his eyes still fixed on the newly sutured area.
"His pulse is still weak but it's stable, doc!"
The doctor nodded and sighed in relief. "I want him on transfusion until his blood count is back on track." he ordered as he continue to close up on his patient's surgical site.
That was close, too close.

Roughly after six hours of waiting, Kangin's surgeon made his appearance in the waiting room. As soon as the man entered the room, Kangin's parent's , Leeteuk, Kyuhyun and Ryewook surrounded him, eager to know about how the surgery had gone.
Leeteuk studied the surgeon's face, no worry lines were present on his face. The news he's about to deliver has got to be a good one right?
The surgeon offered a warm smile before he continued. "Kangin-sshi's transplant was a huge success, the kidney seems to be doing it's job as soon as it was placed. Things are definitely looking up for Kangin-sshi, his vitals are holding up fine, and we faced no complications whatsoever during the surgery. The kidney's working wonders for Kangin-sshi. We are positive he'll be on his way to recovery soon."
The confirmation from the doctor had the small waiting room filled with emotions, especially for Kangin's parents. Leeteuk's eyes brimmed with tears once again, thankful that Kangin's surgery had been a success without any other complications. Kangin definitely doesn't need anymore setbacks.
"When can we see him?" Kangin's father asked.
"We are moving him to recovery for a few hours before we settle him back in his room. We will be doing more monitoring as precaution, if there's no other complications, we are positive that he no longer needs to be in the ICU. But in the meantime, why don't all of you go home and get some rest, it'll be awhile until anyone is allowed to visit him"
The word complication had always manage to make Leeteuk flinch, but he was happy enough to hear that there's a big possibility Kangin would no longer need to be in ICU. A tangible sign of hope, that things are going to get better and the worst is finally over.
Kangin's parents had agreed to go home to get freshen up before they were allowed to see their son. Before leaving, Kangin's mother offered the three young men a comforting motherly hug, whispering that she'll keep praying for Yesung's well being.
Yesung.
Before the doctor turned to leave the room along with Kangin's parents, Leeteuk grabbed his chance to ask.
"Doctor, how about our other friend Yesung? The kidney donor?" An unsettling feeling once again crashed into him. "Isn't he supposed to be out of the surgery first?"
"Leeteuk-sshi, I'm afraid that I can't comment on Yesung-sshi's status as I wasn't one of his surgeons. Doctor Lee Cho In would be the person in charged, and he will definitely come out to update you as soon as he's able to." Another soft assuring smile plastered on his face, then the doctor turned to leave the room, leaving the three men once again waiting helplessly.

The wait hadn't been that long in reality, but Leeteuk found himself pacing around the small waiting room for what it felt like eternity. The doctor in questioned finally decided to show himself , his expression not as pleasant as the previous doctor's when he had came into the waiting room bearing the long awaited news.
"How is Yesung doing?" Leeteuk shot the question even before the doctor had a chance to open his mouth.
.
"I'm sorry to keep you waiting without any news." The doctor offered a sincere apology before getting to the point. "Yesung-sshi is now in stable condition. I don't mean to alarm you with this, but he went through a sudden onset bleeding, as we were about to close him up."
"W-what? What happened? I thought this kind of surgery rarely results to any complication! " Ryewook suddenly asked incredulously.
"Gentlemen, I know you don't want to hear this, but there were always risk in any kind of surgeries, I assure you we have resolved the problem. It was touch and go for a bit, we almost lost him on the table, but we managed to get the bleeder under control and he is now in stable condition."
Leeteuk drew a shaky breath, not able to chew in the fact that Yesung had almost lost his life on the operating table. "When can we see him?"
"I can't say for sure how long he will be in recovery. We are monitoring his blood counts closely to avoid any other unwanted complications. His body is already extremely weak as it is."
The doctor noticed the worried look on the faces of the three young men standing before him. "As I said, he's stable and not in any immediate danger. Once his blood count is stabilized, he will be transferred back to his room, and you will be able to see him."
"For now, why don't you go home, get some sleep and come back later in the evening. I'm sure it's been a long day for the three of you, having to deal with two of your friends' surgery at one go."
Leeteuk didn't really want to leave. In his hasty mind, he would rather stay in the hospital and wait until he is allowed to see Kangin and Yesung. But when he turned to look at his two dongsaengs, face haggard and tired from all the waiting and emotional beatings they had endured, Leeteuk decided it would be a good idea to go home. He didn't want to drag the two younger men along with him.

Leeteuk had came back to the hospital alone that night. The request to see his friends were easily granted as they were both settled nicely back into their own rooms. Leeteuk was nothing but grateful that he's able to visit both of his friends.
He first made his way down to Kangin's room. Just as he expected, the room once again filled with Kangin's family and close friends. He entered the room and shied away from the crowd around Kangin's bed. He managed to take notice on Kangin's better appearance. He no longer looked like death warmed up, and his vitals were much stronger than it had been before the transplant. The only downside is that Kangin has yet to regain consciousness after his uphill battle with his failing kidney.
Leeteuk stayed a little bit longer, not really wanting to leave Kangin; but not really wanting to stay with the other people in the room either. In the end he excused himself and made his way out to the hospital hallway towards Yesung's room.
Leeteuk cautiously entered the room. His eyes automatically scanned around the room. If he had expected Kangin's room to be occupied with his family and friends, Leeteuk surely did expect Yesung to be all alone in his room.
Yesung lay perfectly still, a blue blanket drawn up just above his mid-section, his arms resting at either side. His eyes were closed and his upper body slightly elevated on the bed he was lying on. Yesung was still very pale and looked slightly haggard. Various tubes once again snaked in and out from under his hospital gown and there was a tube running beneath his nose, hissing oxygen.
Leeteuk pulled the plastic chair over towards Yesung's bed so he could sit closer to him. Upon hearing the sound, Yesung's eyes open at half mast, responding to the sudden movement. acknowledging Leeteuk's presence.
He had always been a light sleeper.
"Jungsoo hyung.." Yesung's voice was small and weak.
"Hey... Jongwoon-ah...You're awake! How are you feeling?" Leeteuk smiled, revealing his dimple. His voice was just above whisper.
Yesung swallowed thickly trying to rid the invisible ball in his throat. "Like my kidney had been removed..." he replied, smiling weakly.
Leeteuk didn't know how to react, he stifled a laugh despite the distinct urge to clear his burning eyes with the tears that were already threatening to roll down his cheeks.
"Youngwoon..? the question came out more like a sigh, but Leeteuk knew what Yesung wanted to know.
"He's holding on his own Sungie... thanks to you. He's still not completely out of the woods yet, but he surely is doing much much better now. Don't you worry."
Yesung didn't reply. Talking makes him tired. He closed his eyes, thankful that the surgery had gone well for Kangin. A satisfied smile fitted across his face, glad and relieved to know his friend is no longer on the brink of death.
"You did good, Sungie... you did good.. " Leeteuk held the younger man's small delicate hand and gave it a slight squeeze. He choked on a sob " You really did good Sungie... I'm proud of you. We are all proud of you." A single tear finally escaped.
Yesung didn't have the energy to reply, a small weary sigh escaped his lips, the corner of his mouth curled into a small smile. He could feel the vice grip that had been gripping around his heart since Kangin's health started to deteriorate slowly dispersing. Feeling at ease, he then fell back into the blanket of clouds, cradling him to sleep.

Leeteuk found himself striding down the hallway of the hospital again, not able to rest in peace at home even on his off days. He wouldn't be surprised if he'll be next to be admitted to the hospital. But of course he didn't want that to happen.
Kangin's room is usually occupied with close friends and relatives. Leeteuk hadn't really have much chance to spend his time with Kangin because of that. Sometimes he's grateful that Kangin always have people around that cares about him. But some other times, he would just love to shove everyone out of the room so he can spend some quiet time with him.
Leeteuk peered inside Yesung's room to find a nurse standing beside Yesung's bed, scribbling away at the chart in her hand, her eyebrows creased with worry.
“Something's wrong?” Leeteuk inquired, curious to know if there's anything wrong with Yesung. It wasn't that he was asking for bad news, but it's a habit he can't shake off when his worry spikes.
"He seems to be running a slight fever. It could be side effects from the surgery. His body is still strained and adjusting after everything he's gone through." The nurse explained casually.
Leeteuk nodded slightly in understanding and lowered himself onto the plastic chair.
"Oh! He's on mild sedative to help him rest, he's been restless all day. He might not be much of a company today, unfortunately." The petite nurse thought that Leeteuk should know that bit of information. She then made her exit, leaving the two men alone once again.
Hours later Leeteuk was already sleeping restlessly in the plastic chair beside Yesung's bed. It had been uncomfortable, but then again Leeteuk has the ability to fall asleep anywhere at anytime. Yesung's doctor and surgeon, Dr. Lee Cho In walked into the room, causing him to wake up abruptly.
"Sorry to wake you, Leeteuk-sshi." The tall doctor offers apologetically. "The nurse on duty told me that Yesung-sshi was running on a mild fever, I just need to check on him myself."
"Oh, it's alright doctor, I didn't even realize I've dozed off.” Leeteuk mumbled tiredly.
“How’s everything going Leeteuk-sshi?” The doctor asked kindly, moving to check on Yesung's vitals.
Leeteuk looked up at the doctor, rubbing his eyes tiredly. "Oh, everything's alright, I guess? We just really miss having Kangin and Yesung up and about."
The doctor checked on the thermometer again to confirm his finding. His face fell. "Damn it!" He cursed inwardly.
"W-what's wrong? What is it?" Leeteuk's worry skyrocketed when he saw the expression on the doctor's face. His eyes following the doctor's every movement.
Please let it be nothing. Please. Please.
The doctor carefully lifted the thin cloth covering Yesung's body to confirm his suspicion. Once again the doctor swore under his breath, when he saw the surgical area red and puffy. "He developed a post operative infection."
"W-w-what'? I-is he going to be alright?" He knew an infection would effect Yesung's recovery, and that's not a good sign. Not good at all.
"We're going to start him on broad spectrum medication to help him overcome this. We'll keep monitoring his progress and I'll be conducting more in-depth tests to make sure we know what we're dealing with."
"A-and if the medications doesn't do the trick?" Leeteuk hates himself for being curious sometimes. He could already imagine what the answer would be like, but still he couldn't help but ask.
The look in the doctors eyes gave Leeteuk another bolt of uneasy feeling. " If the medications fails to stop the infection from doing anymore damage, and his condition doesn't improve, the consequences could be dire."
"He can d-d-die from this infection?" Tears pricking his eyes without him realizing it.
"I'm terribly sorry Leeteuk-sshi." The doctor placed a comforting squeeze on his shoulder. He knew that they don't need anymore bad news. "I know this is a lot to take, but I promise you, we'll be doing everything we can to avoid the infection from spreading.
"I'll have the nurse come in to set up his new medication as soon as possible. I'll make sure to provide a cooling pad for his fever as well."
Whatever the doctor said at that point, Leeteuk didn't really pay attention. His attention shifted solely on Yesung's fevered form. He didn't noticed it earlier how Yesung's face was covered with unhealthy sheen of sweat and the small gasps that escapes his slightly parted lips.
When the nurses entered the room to hook Yesung up on more medications, Leeteuk didn't even turn to acknowledge their presence. His gaze fixed on Yesung's too pale face. His mind is at loss.
One of his hand made gentle contact with Yesung's warm forehead. Leeteuk swallowed hard, trying to ignore the painful lump that formed in his throat.
"Damn it Jongwoon!" he breathed as his other hand took Yesung's limp hand in his.
Yesung didn't even stir from his deep slumber. Leeteuk stared at the younger man and sighed heavily, his chest aching.
"You’ve gotta be alright Sungie, we can’t lose you... I can't lose you...especially after all you've done. Please... please Sungie, fight this. You don't deserve things to get any worse, so fight this... don't let this little infection take you down..."
To be continued...
