went into this expecting a straightforward doc about Tierra Whack and got something a lot more abstract, playful and creepy -- didn't expect this to end up involving freemasons and a set from American Sniper, but expecting anything that Tierra Whack does to be conventional is clearly the wrong approach; really great
Big fan of Tierra Whack.
A few tidbits of interesting information.
A few tidbits of interesting insight about the industry and process.
There are moments where I see glimpses of the better episodes of Atlanta s2 and s4 or even Swarm. Unfortunately those moments only make up maybe 15% of this documentary.
Just knowing none of it was real really dampened the experience though unfortunately.
I was so genuinely interested in the potential of this story but you're constantly reminded this is just an elaborate album promo and not an actual creepy conspiracy.
It's all just fabricated unfortunately.
The conversation about unreliable narrator was super interesting, considering everything I just said lol.
Ending made me roll my eyes real far back into my own head unfortunately.
Tierra Whack as a person has a persona like no other, so when someone (or something) tries to interact with her success, of course it will stir questions. This left me with so many questions but i don't want them answered
The rap genre as a whole needs people like Tierra Whack just as much as the documentary genre needs films like Cypher. This is pure genius which questions how people in the industry got to be where they are today, all told from the point of view of one of rap's rising stars
I saw this at TriBeCa and had no idea what it was and I deadass thought this was a 100% genuine doc up until the last like 20 minutes so hats off to the director for that. Very engaging
As a devoted fan of Tierra Whack since the debut of Whack World, this was by far my most anticipated film of the Denver Film Festival. It's hard to explain just how influential her playfulness and aesthetic have been on me as a woman of a similar age with a shared proclivity for strangeness.
It starts as you might expect a documentary about an up-and-coming artist to start: showing her origin and inviting you into behind-the-scenes moments of her personal life. It works as a solid foundation for the following twists and turns, which are set up equally well. It does well in inviting us to suspend disbelief while also keeping us very aware of our role as an audience.…
I don't know, as a Tierra Whack fan it's cool, but as a film that tries to play with the line between narrative and documentary it doesn't really work all that well
It's certainly a fun idea, and definitely feels creepy when thinking about how there are people like this all over the world (and I'm sure Tierra and many other artists have had similarly scary experiences)
I just don't really know how many people are getting drawn to this outside of people noticing Tierra Whack's name and being down for it
At 80 minutes though, you can't go wrong!
