Ant Head

What is a masterpiece? Who defines that term? Films like The Godfather, Apocalypse Now and 12 Angry Men have been described as that term. Well I would like to add David Lynch's 2018 short Ant Head.

What can be more chilling than one shot... One shot which shows ants eating cheese. One of the purest activities, eating, is turned to a psychological experiment in the hands of the master.

It starts with a really bland image, you can't even see what is really going on. Then it gets clear and then it turns to a more un-focused image again. While that may seem like a useless thing to do, it actually shows the mind of a person. How at first, as a baby your mind is almost free, you don't have any worries. Then as you grow up, you start giving too much focus on everything and being focused on anything. And then as you become older you start rethinking all those things and decide to give half of you focus on things not that important.

The cheese the ants are eating is shaped like a head. While at first that might seem like just another choice trying to be scary, or creepy it wants to say how we let "ants" eat our head, our brain. How we let small things, that we can fight easily, destroy us. And all that because we do nothing to prevent it. We are too "focused" on living a life like we always do that we don't even stop our tiny enemy. To the point it will eat us.

This short masterpiece by the master, deserves the attention of the audience for the whole 13 minutes runtime. I am just blown away!
