"Rise and rise again until lambs become lions."

I went into this with quite low expectations due to the long runtime and the majority of reviews saying it's boring and takes itself too seriously. While those are legitimate criticisms (especially the former), this is ultimately an enjoyable retelling of a story told many times before.

Ridley Scott really knows how to make a scene look good. He teams up with frequent collaborator John Mathieson (Gladiator, Hannibal, Kingdom of Heaven) for the cinematography and it looks fantastic. Some of the shots in this film were amazing. I was also into the action sequences in general...they were all really well shot. The acting was also pretty ace with Oscar Isaac and Mark Strong the standouts. Crowe was good, although maybe not charismatic enough for Robin Hood. Blanchett was good, as were all of the merry men. I didn't find the score too memorable but I loved the shanties (are they shanties or is that a pirate thing) that these guys were singing. Those were catchy.

My main complaint is that, when this film is boring, it is criminally boring. There were multiple times when this thing just dragged. I will say it barely hurt my enjoyment overall though and the good parts more than made up for it.

Overall, a fun time and an interesting interpretation of the Robin Hood mythos.
