Hard not to love a Melville crime drama, but I will say this definitely isn’t my favorite of his that I’ve seen. That being said, still masterful work. The black and whites look amazing, really nice camera movement and shots in general, solid performances overall.
It’s hard not to see this movie’s influence in others. You can see it in Ocean’s Eleven, Heat, plenty of others. I love all the planning, I love the way the movie sprawls and feels…
Man what a movie. Was really enthralled from start to finish. Between Welles’ narration, his ability to weave together the story and larger philosophical ideas, and his visual language, I found this to be really captivating. I know this isn’t an original statement but Welles really does have the greatest voice of all time.

My company gives us the week between Christmas and New Years off and there’s like, NOTHING else out right now that I haven’t seen already. Honestly wish that I had just gone to see Avatar or Marty Supreme a second time instead of seeing this. Just a waste of time.

WOW! I was afraid seeing this a little late and watching all the 5 star reviews roll in would get me overhyped for this but it really lives up to it. Just a phenomenal movie. Electric from start to finish. The fact PTA was able to keep so much momentum going for nearly 3 hours without it ever feeling tiring or falling off is like a miracle. Every performance is perfect. Chase Infiniti is going to be such a star. Don’t think I could be happier walking out of this.
