There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? Soon, there will be dark nights. And no light. Which means only one thing: Yet another season of Letterboxd's annual festivity approaches: The Hoop-Tober Challenge. Conceived, developed & unleashed by one of the OGs of this film community, Cinemonster's celebration of all things horror enters its 12th edition this year and it remains just as rewarding an experience as it was the first time around.
To the uninitiated, Hoop-Tober is a 1½ month long descent into a vast & versatile world of horror that invites & encourages anyone & everyone to enrich & expand their horror palette and have fun while doing it. There is never a better time to get into this genre than during the spooky season. And this 45 days long marathon offers just enough flexibility for you to seek out horror gems that you never would stumble upon if not for the rules & criteria that come into play each year.
Hoop-Tober XII marks my 12th consecutive year participating in the event. And it has been a pleasure watching it grow from the random event for select few friends by a horror fan to the great juggernaut that the entire community now waits for & partakes in every year. Whether this is your 1st time or 12th time taking part in this madness, it's suffice to say you will have a grand time and will keep coming back for every future edition. It is addictive in that sense but its only side effect is a newfound appreciation for the genre as a whole, which is a good thing.
To those joining this year for their inaugural season, welcome to the madhouse. And to those returning for another edition, let us have a spooky month & a half, shall we? The following 31 horror films are what I've chosen for my contribution to Cine's HoopTober 12. As before, some films in the list may get replaced over the next 45 days or so, depending on either my mood or the film's availability. Come Sept 15th, everyone will hear you scream. Let the festivities commence.
