The Gold Inferno: Disasters at the Oscars

Be it natural disasters, such as earthquakes or tornadoes, or man-made disasters, such as nuclear meltdowns or city fires, disaster films focus on the catastrophes that impact humanity. Usually big action/thriller films with large visual effects, they tend to fall on the blockbuster end of the film spectrum and thus rarely get nominated above the line at the Oscars, but are commonly nominated for technical awards. These are the disaster films that have been nominated for Oscars.
