This is a list of films that received write-in votes at the Oscars, something that has rarely been allowed.
Write-In nominations were first allowed at the 7th Academy Awards due to complaints over the snubbing of Bette Davis for Of Human Bondage. It was believed with write-ins, she would easily win the award, and yet she came in last place. Claudette Colbert won for It Happened One Night that year. They were then also allowed at the 8th Academy Awards where several films were written in, before the Academy resumed disallowing write-in's.
The only films to receive multiple write-in nominations were A Midsummer Night's Dream and Captain Blood. A Midsummer Night's Dream is also the only film to win a write-in nomination, for Best Cinematography.
