Though most of the films that have been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay were based off of novels, many have been taken from other sources as well. One of the most prominent sources for adaptations are plays and musicals, in particular those off Broadway.

The following are films that were adapted from stage plays or musicals that were nominated for Oscars in any category. This includes operas and operettas. This excludes teleplays and radio plays.
