The Academy Award for Best Original Song, introduced in 1935 at the 7th Academy Awards, is presented annually for the best achievement in original song writing for a film from the previous year.
Beginning in 1947 the category was limited to 5 nominees, and in 2008 it was established that a maximum of two songs from a film could be nominated. The songs that are nominated for this award are typically performed during the ceremony and before this award is presented.
Sorted Chronologically by Awards Year. Winners in BOLD. Acceptance speech linked in Notes (where available).
