The lives of ten strangers intersect through a terrifying chain of events as a mutating fungus begins to spread through a small town wiping out everyone that comes into contact with it.
The Spore is a fairly predictable low budget mutating fungus flick that features some really solid practical effects work, and great atmosphere. Unfortunately the film also features a forgettable cast, slow pacing, and a repetitive style of storytelling whenever they introduce new characters. There's enough here to make me keep an eye out for first time director D.M. Cunningham though so that's good.
I recently watched The Spore (2021) on Tubi. The storyline follows a small town as an outbreak begins infecting people, turning them into violent killers who pass on the infection through their attacks. A group of survivors bands together, attempting to fortify their position and find a way out of their dire situation.
The film is written and directed by Matt Cunningham (3 Demons) and stars Jean Ann Boshoven (Chasing Zombies), Haley Heslip (3 Demons), and Jackson Ezinga (13 Demons).
There are aspects of The Spore that I genuinely enjoyed. The settings are well-chosen for the premise, and the cinematography is clean, with background sound effects that perfectly complement the content. The acting is solid across the board. The infected…
This has taught me that no matter what!!! In times of crisis!!!! Mind your own business!!!! Stay alone
Of everyone I follow on here, I'm the first person to watch this. Doesn't really surprise me, I found it in the depths of Prime, and it had a 2.7, which is kinda my goto for these shitty prime movies i watch. The first 15 minutes or so were solid and did a good job with the world building. But then then it kinda lost everything after that. The time spent building the world was for nothing because every character acted as if they were in a different movie, just the stupidest fucking decisions. The acting was also god awful, the shit script definitely didn't help matters though. The anthology-esque structure just made the whole thing feel empty, we had…
Regional Michigan spore body horror with really goopy, drippy, bloody practical effects and as my buddy Greg said...monster FX reminiscent of The Deadly Spawn or if you need a deeper cut to fester and breed fungal spores--The Abomination. I understand it's hard for some people, but you must be attentive because a lot of exposition is given over the radio clutter as characters navigate their way around toxic fungal infestation, devastation, isolation.
The Spore was a pandemic style horror that infected me with boredom.
This was a predictable at times movie with characters acting the same way. However, I would like to say the effects were pretty cool looking. Camera shots for much of the runtime was solid. Often echoed to other movies and directors like Romero, Craven, and Hooper.
Even though it was low budget, it did work out a story that reflected humanity during a pandemic pretty well. Sadly the pacing and runtime doesn't give much to really enjoy. It dragged too much on scenes where it was almost a given what would happen to the character.
As much as I applaud this director venture into this directorial debut of…
2 minutes of material padded to 90 minutes with endless scenes of people wandering around or driving.
What could have been an effective short is stretched to breaking point through a series of repetitive vignettes.
A shame since the cinematography is good and the practical effects are excellent.
Frustrating
