The Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, introduced as a competitive category in 1957 at the 29th Academy Awards, is presented annually for outstanding achievement in filmmaking of a predominantly non-English language film produced outside the United States from the previous year.
From 1948–1956, the award was presented as an Honorary Award. Since 2007, submitted films are no longer required to be in the official language of the submitting country. Additionally, unlike others awards, this honor is considered a recognition for the submitting country as a whole.
