The headline results of 2023's Beyond the Sight & Sound Canon poll, conducted by Ángel González and published by They Shoot Pictures Don't They on 8 April 2024.

NOTE: Not my choices! For information only. I had no connection to the poll other than submitting my own ballot.

A poll of 'greatest films' that EXCLUDES the 4,366 films receiving at least one mention in the 2022 Sight & Sound poll. 839 film enthusiasts, including 75 professional critics, submitted lists of up to 100 feature films (58+ minutes in length) between August and December 2023. A remarkable total of 14,558 films received at least one vote.

The results haven't been ranked overall. Instead they've been collated into an 'A-List' based on votes within decades and within US and non-US/English and non-English categories to obtain a varied selection, a list of the rest of the films receiving at least two votes, and a list of 'orphans' that only one person voted for. A few films have also been set aside on a 'B-list' as they were too recent to have been considered for the main 2022 S&S poll.

This is the A-list, in chronological order as presented on the site. The actual number of votes for each title is shown in the comments.

You may be surprised to note some of the titles that didn't receive a single mention from the Sight and Sound participants!
