the first openly transgender male actor in a major horror franchise film? in MY favorite franchise?

dope as hell, and movie ain’t too bad either. in fact, despite knowing full-well that it is the World Premiere Buzz speaking through me right now, i cannot think of anything majorly wrong with this movie. 90 minutes of the pedal to the floor. this is a grand slam

i have to acknowledge that, as someone actively curating a very specific angle of queer horror history, i have a really weird, unique angle that i came into this docuseries with. my experience will not be yours.

too long to really keep up the manic energy of the first 20 minutes but when it hits it really hits. so many great shots and unsettling moments and crazy pseudo-incest and body horror. and then there’s a really long scene of a woman excreting breast milk while she talks. because it’s gross y’know? so we’ll call it a mixed bag, arguably the most worthy of the “omg it’s SO crazy!” overhype of the films i’ve recently watched

thing noticed on this particular watch: this is a whole film about sexual incompatibility. that scene of angela’s father(s) has some weird implications, but even the straight people aren’t really interested in having sex. when they are, they aren’t successful. judy’s so obsessed with angela that the two men at her side ignore her and chat merrily with each other. the (presumably) straight men antagonize the women, rejecting them readily in favor of homosocial games. men obsessed with men, women obsessed with women. a movie where heterosexuality is straight up mythological, if not fantastical, because everybody is too busy being queer
