Didn’t like that scary lady in the basement very much. No sirree. Didn’t like her one bit. And now that I’m lying all alone in the dark… I’m finding I like her even less.
Here's how this movie should have gone.
Uncle: Thank you for agreeing to take care of my disturbed niece while I leave. There's one minor caveat I didn't mention. I need you to wear this harness with a chain so she knows you won't come into her room.
Isaac: Oh, uh no, I don't want to put that on.
Uncle: Without putting it on, there's no deal.
Isaac: Oh alright.
Uncle: So you'll do it?
Isaac: No I meant oh alright no deal.
Uncle: It's very important. She insists.
Isaac: Oh...uh, I'm good.
Uncle: Are you saying you are backing out?
Isaac: Yup.
Uncle: Come look at her. You see how scared she is. This will keep her feeling safe.…
Aside from some honestly frightening scenes with a corpse, all Caveat ends up being is three people we don’t know anything about kinda doing things for no real reason at all
An interesting premise that loses steam halfway through due to its implausible plot and frustrating second act. Yawn.
Super solid new movie streaming on Shudder with atmosphere and creepy haunted house vibes for days. A guy takes an offer to babysit a disturbed woman in a creepy old house on a remote island and he has to wear a chain tied to him that allows him access to the whole house except for her room. And he can’t go outside. Who the fuck would even do that?! This guy apparently.
Moments of unbearable tension, a nice mix of psychological and supernatural horror, and the creepiest stuffed rabbit you’ve ever seen all make this a great night watch with all the lights off. Probably helps that I didn’t really hear anything about it before I watched it.
how that fucked up bunny doll that randomly played a drum when it sensed a presence nearby wasn't even the fifth-creepiest part of this film that took place entirely around one building
yeah, really love starting my day this tense
Here’s a free bit of life advice: If someone offers you money to babysit their disturbed adult niece in the remote County Cork house where her father recently killed himself, don’t take it. Isaac (memorable newcomer Jonathan French) knows there has to be a catch, but paying gigs are few and far between for an institutionalized drifter who suffers from memory loss, and his potential employer Moe (Ben Caplan) claims to be an old friend. It’s worth noting that he doesn’t claim to be a very good one.
As we already suspect — and as Isaac learns the hard way — the title of Irish filmmaker Damian Mc Carthy’s “Caveat” wryly undersells the dangers at hand. The first red flag…
Atmospheric; creepy; nonsensical; pitch-perfect; short; slow-burning; underdeveloped; unsatisfying; well-made.
A revenge story with a dreadful atmosphere that made me stop the movie half way and watch the rest the following day. Not many people consider it as good as I would, but something about it just hit too close to home.
