Halloween III: Season of the Witch
★★★★★ Liked Rewatched

This will be my third time reviewing this film and I can still find new things to gush about. I’ll try to keep this brief though. Perfectly imperfect. The score has always been amazing, but I think it may be my favorite by Carpenter now. Just the best pairing with the moody atmosphere. It seems everyone is firing on all cylinders. Wallace, Cundey, Carpenter and Atkins. All stars. I have to touch on how ridiculous Dirty Dan Challis is. Absent…

Blue Moon

A wonderful stage play-like film held together by an amazing performance from Ethan Hawke. Andrew Scott holds his own and acts as a much needed foil to Hawke. The rest of a cast are passable which is really the only drawback. The overhanging cloud of melancholy above Larry Hart’s boisterous personality makes the snappy dialogue that much more tragic. Linklater never does wrong in my eyes. Another great collab between him and his muse, Ethan Hawke.

I’ll leave you with my favorite rendition of Blue Moon performed by my all time favorite band.

When I first discovered the name of those unsettlingly nostalgic places known as liminal spaces I was hooked. Something about them creeps me out. The way they exist but feel forgotten. Lost in time. This is a big fear of mine on an existential level. Enough of the background and more about the Backrooms. Some of the most captivating moments in recent horror despite never actually scaring me. The familiar yet distant sets provide a wonderful atmosphere. The disconnect comes…

“As I was leaving, I asked if he’d give me a ride home. I hadn’t ridden a motorcycle in a long time. Actually, I hadn’t been that close to anyone for a while. The road wasn’t that long and I knew I’d soon be getting off. But at that moment, I felt such warmth.”As each day goes by I realize I’m living in a Wong Kar-wai world. A world full of beautiful, lonely people longing for connection or just that…

“Can I tell you a secret? I’m scared.”

The transformation that takes place from that line to the final scene is beautiful. Lucky, played by one of my favorites Harry Dean Stanton, unknowingly embarks on a contemplative journey on accepting his own mortality. Sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it? There’s nothing unknown about this journey other than the how part of the inevitable end. Still, when it comes to those final moments I don’t think we’ll ever be truly prepared.…
