I never thought I’d live to see a film that simultaneously reminded me of the work of both Jean Rollin and Guy N. Smith, the unlikely achievement of The Mermaid’s Curse, a film that also manages to tap into two of men’s biggest fears: women and being cannibalised by them!
Workshy, is something the director of this film, Louisa Warren, is never likely to be accused of. Despite only having film directing credits going back to 2018, Warren currently has 13 feature films to her name. That is more feature films than her British horror namesake Norman J Warren managed during the course of his entire career. In another career parallel, both Warrens began their filmmaking careers in the world…
middle school me was obsessed with this lmao. it has a decent story and nice atmosphere, but the acting mostly sucks and some parts of this were so dumb 😭 like half the time the siren's mouth wasn't even moving when she was singing.
The fact that twice people tried to have sex on a stony, cold British beach sends this more into fantasy more than horror...
It's plagued by as cardboardy script and some uneven deliveries..but it is constructed well...with a silent vampirish Mermaid/Siren causing mayhem along the seafront.

Theres a very despair ridden "1 Week Later" add on right before the end credits....the mood completly destroyed by a weird pop song grafted over the credits

คือ พล็อต โลเคชั่น กับบรรยากาศในเรื่องมันไม่ได้แย่ แต่แอคชั่นมันแย่มากจนดูแล้วเครียด แย่แบบ อีเหี้ยโคตรแย่ นี่ตัวกูดูอะไรอยู่😭😭😭😭😭 แต่นั่นแหละครับ พล็อตมันน่าสนใจ ชายดวงกุดกับเมืองเล็กๆที่มีสิ่งลึกลับจากท้องทะเลออกมาล่าเหยื่อบนหาด ความลุ่มหลง ความโหยหา ถ้าเป็นเรื่องสยองขวัญออนไลน์ให้คิดภาพในหัวเองผมก็คงชอบ ชอบมากๆ แต่พอมันกลายเป็นหนังกากๆที่ผมต้องมาเห็นการแสดงกากๆมันเลยเหี้ยระเบิดเลยทีนี้ ผมปวดใจมากที่ความน่าสนใจของพล็อตแม่งถูกสิ่งที่เรียกว่าแอคติ้งปักเข่าจนผมล้มทั้้งยืน สัสเอ้ยยยยยยยยยยยยย แต่ ผมชอบตีมเรื่องที่เป็นเมืองริมทะเลมากจริงๆ เรื่องนี้ต้องยกให้เขาว่ะ
(btw ตอนแรกผมโคตรเคืองที่นางเงือกไม่มีหาง แต่พอผมรู้ว่าทำไมพวกนางเป็นงั้นก็เลย เค valid ไม่ว่ากัน)

The camera work and lighting make this feel like more of a glorified high school project than the acting does.
I gave it fifteen minutes to try. I was too generous.
