Letterboxd User: OMG have you seen Sinners??? This Ryan Coogler guy has, "The sauce."

Me, an intellectual: Actually, Ryan Coogler had "The sauce" in 2013 when he made his debut masterpiece about police brutality, and when he gave us the second best Rocky movie 40 years and five sequels after the original was released, AND when he followed up one of the biggest blockbusters ever created with a $200 million art film about loss, grief, and how it's okay to cry!!!

Sinners (2025) merely cemented his status as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.

Remember that Futurama episode where Fry is asked to write a sitcom episode so aliens don't destroy the Earth? After writing a generic, predictable plot Leela goes off script and tries to do something that she thinks would impress the aliens more. The aliens HATE it. She then says, "Why don't they like this? It's unexpected and it's clever." To which Fry responds:

"But that’s not why people watch TV! Clever things make people feel stupid, and unexpected things make them feel scared!"

Anyway, you could search all media for decades and not find a better quote that describes the reaction to this movie.
