Of all of ATJ's films, this is the one I was most anticipating, but in execution, watching it felt like listening to a joke I didn't get.
The Green Butchers had such an effective, tight story with great set-ups and pay-offs, and I can appreciate maybe wanting to go in a more abstract direction, but the characters in this film are so morally bankrupt that none of their arcs felt particularly rewarding or their outcomes particularly earned, yet it doesn't quite have the sick edge to punish it's characters like a Todd Solondz.
Not a bad film, but didn't quite gel for me.
