I was expecting the sex and drugs and violence, but I was NOT expecting the lizard with a gun
(my first Gregg Araki movie!)
such beautiful colors: the eye shadow, the painted walls, the outfits, the fakest blood you’ve ever seen!
in some ways hard to watch: very violent, all the characters felt hard to access, and I don’t actually like mob movies very much.
but I loved watching the queer and trans characters on screen, especially in the party scene. despite there being queer villains and multiple queers killed, it didn’t feel like it fell into any recognizable tropes to me
wow, I liked this so much more on 2nd viewing! I think I have a higher tolerance for bad acting now, and also it was just really fun to see in a theater full of dykes at Sapphopalooza
watching this at 32 made me feel old, in a good way. but I felt nostalgic for that early 20s feeling that you and your friends are inventing being queer
the best part was the Q&A with Guinevere Turner. that woman is not media-trained, and thank god! she shared so much good ‘90s and current day gossip
I do think she should have tried lesbian sex at least once!
