#1 - Whiplash
In my opinion, the greatest film ever made. A cinematic masterpiece and one that I could watch again immediately after seeing it. J.K Simmons gives one of my favourite ever acting performances and this movie opened my eyes wider to the musical world of jazz.

A short synopsis of my top 10 below and the reason for why I have each film in their position.
#1 - Whiplash
In my opinion, the greatest film ever made. A cinematic masterpiece and one that I could watch again immediately after seeing it. J.K Simmons gives one of my favourite ever acting performances and this movie opened my eyes wider to the musical world of jazz.
#2 - The Prestige
Constant twists and turns with numerous plot twists that has you questioning what’s going to happen next. The answer hidden in plain sight, but not understanding how it is done until the very end, just like a true magician able to misdirect and deceive. Also supported by great casting members with a tense and personal rivalry.
#3 - The Wolf of Wall Street
The greatest biopic ever made. Leonardo DiCaprio gives a performance worthy of all acting awards, and the rest of the cast gave it their all. It’s such an interesting real-life story to see the rise and fall of a man corrupted by his surroundings and you don’t care it’s 3 hours long, because you have such a blast and get sucked into it just like the characters.
#4 - Kill Bill Vol.1
The best leading female protagonist movie of all time and such an iconic fight scene in the final act. Definitely one of the best revenge stories and Quentin Tarantino’s best.
#5 - Inception
Inception is one of those films I was determined to dislike when I first ever heard of it because of the amount of praise it got. I’ve never liked being a crowd-follower and having herd mentality, but I couldn’t help but love and admire Inception. One of my earliest introductions to Christopher Nolan’s filmography and forever grateful. I am fully invested in this film whenever I watch it and my appreciation for Hans Zimmer continue to rise every ‘Time’.
#7 - The Thing
John Carpenter’s best film and the greatest stand alone horror film of all time. The best use of practical effects there has ever been and layers and layers of tension carefully considered to make a truly magnificent movie.
#8 - The Dark Knight
This film single handedly has convinced me that Heath Ledger is the greatest actor that’s ever lived and remains my favourite to this day. His portrayal of the iconic character, The Joker, has made him my favourite movie character of all time and this film is a sensational thrill ride. It has one of the best openings to a movie I’ve ever seen and it deserves all the recognition it gets.
#9 - Scream 2
Released the same year I was born, this film has so much meaning to me. The franchise that stimulated my love and passion for horror movies and murder mysteries. Scream 2 is the greatest sequel there has ever been in my opinion, considering how good the original is and I think it even surpasses it with its longer chase scenes and less obvious killer reveal. I think it has the scariest and most unsettling movie opening ever that is extremely creative.
#9 - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
A fantasy movie comes to life in the perfect way. The starting film to the best and most consistent trilogy there is. It balances all genres immaculately and has the biggest rewatch ability factor of any film I have seen. Finely directed and composed, completely warming the soul.
#10 - Dunkirk
The fact that 4 films from Christopher Nolan’s filmography are in my top 10 says it all really. Dunkirk blends three overlapping narratives together in a dramatic true story that depicts the tales and heroics of soldiers during the war. I find myself holding my breath for the longest time in this film as there’s no second wasted of rising tension and the constant ticking score that features is frightening.
